We have been back to school for almost a month and it has been a time of exploration and growth. Here are some photos of what we have done so far:
We have a patio space that has great toys and bikes and engaging activities. Ms. Liah puts out so many fun things! We also enjoy free play in our classroom. We build so many things with our couch. 🛋️ We have started small groups and we get to learn and grow together. Each week we do different projects and even though they are disguised as games we are learning all the time! There is art with our brand new art teacher. Ms. Marshall has taken over the project room and she also has exciting and new projects to explore. This week we got to use scissors and we cut out some shapes.Outside time is always appreciated. From our patio space to the yard we love playing with each other. The Big Field is a fun place to explore and run and kick and throw balls.
Red Light, Green Light is a game that we really enjoy.
Afterwards we rest and stretch our bodies. We also listen to a story!
So far it has been a great start to a great year and we look forward to what comes next! 😁
Easter has just passed and we had a lovely time. We started before the actual holiday with our copy of Benjamin’s Box as well as a set of Resurrection Eggs. Using both we went through the events of Palm Sunday to Easter morning and His resurrection.
We also read the story from the Bible and made comparisons. Each item represents part of the Easter story.
We also had some egg hunts. Here are a few photos of the class quickly finding the eggs!
The class had a lot of fun both finding the eggs and seeing the treats that were inside. We both learned and played! 😊
When you ask the class what month we are in their first answer is Valentines! We then remind them that it is February, but it is when we celebrate Valentines and the many different ways that we can show love to each other.
We had some great parties this year and here are some photos:
We had a Photo Booth and the class really enjoyed taking silly pictures with each other (some friends visited a few times😉).We did everything from decorating our bags to passing out valentines to cooking projects and more. ( we even took a few more silly pictures.)
Ms. Heather and our volunteers made pancakes and they were so good! It was a day full of fun and treats and we are so happy that we got to celebrate together.
We have a Preschool tradition of making Stone soup each year and even though we don’t always add the stone we still have the most important ingredient. Sharing.
Here is a slideshow of what we did for those two days!
The class got to make bread with Ms. Heather so we had soup and homemade bread.
Thank you all for donating both the ingredients and for your time. The class loved having all of our parent volunteers and everything that was brought for our special celebration.
We also wrapped up the week with the annual pumpkin drop. As one of the oldest classes on the preschool side we got to help clean up and keep some of the seeds from the drop. It really was a fun and full week.
Our Happily Ever After Curriculum is based on fairy tales and folk tales and we have had a great time integrating it into our lesson plans.
The first story was Little Red Riding Hood and we loved reading different versions of the story and comparing and contrasting. But we have moved on to the Three Bears and we have already done so much!
We have started letting the children act out the stories during Music and Movement time. Here are some clips from The Room 1 Theater Group.
This is some video from Monday. The class needed Ms. Heather to guide the story along. They knew the gist of the story. The class knew a lot of the lines the second day and even had a student narrator.
The children asked about porridge and we compared it to oatmeal and they got to make it and try it during small groups. Here is what that looked like:
They said it was delicious. We used vanilla oat milk and they got to cut up peaches and bananas.
Mr. Tim even loaned us some books so we can compare and contrast different stories. Here is what we have read so far.
We have read both these books this week and we plan to read a few more.
We have celebrated Apple & Pumpkin days which is a preschool tradition. We had apple and pumpkin based crafts and games as well as snacks!
Wednesday was Apple Day and we did apple crafts and ate Red Delicious apples. They were so sweet!
We did dot painting and we stamped with apples on a stamp pad. We ended the festivities with a trip to big field and had fun with sack races, frisbees, bouncy balls and some fun with the parachute.
We read the Pumpkin Patch Parable and we learned about how we can let God’s light shine from within us.
Thursday was Pumpkin Day and it was a blast! We had pumpkin painting, carving and bowling. Here are a few photos of the fun 🤩:
We also had a parent come in and she read so many books. The class loved it 📖.
It was such a fun time and we look forward to next year!
In our classroom we have a paper lemur that travels around the room. The class gets to find her during morning meeting ( if they haven’t started looking already). We have named her Lucy the lemur. One day a classmate said that Lucy looks like a raccoon and that led to the discussion.
What makes them similar? What are the differences? Here are some pictures from that investigation and what we did to figure out why Lucy the Lemur isn’t a raccoon.
Ms. Heather showed us with a tape measurer the average size of a lemur and that of a raccoon. We got to draw pictures of both.
She also brought weights so we could feel how heavy they are. The weights were passed around in morning meeting and the drawings were done during free play.
Ms. Heather also found some facts about where they live as well what they eat. We all learned something new and had fun investigating what makes them similar and what are their differences.
We learned that while lemurs and raccoons have some similar features that they are not the same animal.
