Our friends in older pod are having an unbeLEAFably good time out on the patio.
Our tiny hands are busy exploring fall sensory materials like goards, oats, dried oranges and cinnamon sticks!
We’re strengthening fine motor muscles as we scoop, pour and pick up small leaves and pumpkins. Also, we’re practicing important skills like sharing space, negotiating, collaborating and communicating with others.
Slime has also been a fall favorite!
With our water feature out of commission for the colder months, we repurposed the space with loose parts play! This is a great example of how we integrate important monthly shape and color concepts. In October, we put a strong emphasis on circles and the color orange. Circles are heavily featured in this open-ended activity that is designed to ignite imaginations.
Here, our older pod friends are making “pizza” together!
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese? Yes, please!
A few friends from Room 1 worked together to decorate an elaborate, multiple tier “wedding cake.”
We LOVE to move our bodies on the patio!
Hopscotch helps our friends develop body control, rhythm, balance, coordination and so much more!
Check out these balance beam buddies!
Apple picking on a balance beam is a huge challenge that our friends are up for.
Building together brings out big smiles!
Mr. Potato Head is a classic toy used to learn parts of a whole. Our friends are concentrating hard as they work to assemble unique variations.
The fall fun isn’t over yet! Stay tuned for more as we let the gourd times roll!
On Monday, October 11th we had a fantastic visit from Pasadena Fire Station 36. They showed us how firefighters outfit themselves to fight fires and even how the truck sprays water! It was awesome! This was a lovely addition to the visit we had from Jeff Ragusa, a Glendale firefighter and dad from Rm 1, who showed us his firefighter gear on Friday, October 1st. With both visits, the firefighters focused on helping the children to understand that the don’t have to be afraid when they see a firefighter fully outfitted, they are here to help. The preschoolers loved having all of our firefighters and we are so grateful for their amazing work. Thanks guys, you are our heroes!
As many of you are aware, Pasadena is dealing with an increased bug population. These tiny pests are, unfortunately, flying, crawling, and worming their way onto our campus and into our lives. Currently we are working with ECOLA, our personal pest management company, to reduce these pernicious creepy crawls as much as possible.
This Friday, October 15th, ECOLA will be treating our play yard and surrounding areas. Attached to this email you will find the specific fact sheets related to what will be used on campus. It is always PCS’s goal to balance safe and effective measures when treating out environment.
What an exciting Monday. We were thrilled to see the Pasadena firefighters come and visit our school, they brought all their very important gear and the big RED truck. All our kids were good listeners, answered questions and saw the fire man put on his uniform. We got to give him hi five and take pictures with them.
Thank you to all the essential workers out there for reaching out in one way or another to put a smile on our kids face.
Science, technology, engineering, art, and math are frequently at play on the older pod patio. Checkout a few of the fun activities that challenge our little ones to problem solve, exercise their fine motor skills, use math and science in practical ways and so much more!
We have been singing, reading and dressing up as firefighters, the kids have also been enjoying the fire trucks and others fire fighting gear in the dramatic station. These activities lead us to today’s presentation by Battalion Chief Jeff Ragusa (Room #1 parent). He did so good with our kids.
Have a look and see at all the Reading, counting, dissecting, exploring, cooking, eating, arts and craft we did with all the apples collected in class. Fun and exciting things in the month of September.
We are so thrilled to announce a very special visit from Battalion Chief Jeff Ragusa, one of our Rm 1 Dads. Jeff is going to bring his personal gear and show all of our kids how firefighters prepare and stay safe when battling fires.
We are so appreciative of the amazing work that Jeff does and his willingness to come and share with us. The kids love seeing heroes in action and it’s even better when we know that hero personally.
Candid Student Photos – Wednesday, October 6th & Thursday, October 7th
They’re back! We will once again be taking Candid Photos of all the kiddos at the preschool this year. These photos are different from the traditional school photos as they are meant to catch the kids in action. Our photographer, Adrea Scheidler, is a PCS mom with many years of experience capturing those adorable preschool smiles. Once photos have been taken, Adrea will provide families with individual links for viewing and purchasing options.
Preschool Chapel – Thursday, October 7th
Our second chapel of the year is here! For our first chapel together we focused on the Creation Story. We are now moving onto Adam and Eve and discussing the power of choices, consequences, and God’s love.

Fire Station 38 Visit – Monday, October 11th
The preschool will be continuing our firefighting theme with a visit from our Local Fire Station 38. They will be making a stop at the preschool with the truck, crew, and a few surprises. We can hardly wait to see it all in person. Hurry, hurry, drive the firetruck!
One of our favorite preschool firefighter songs is Hurry, Hurry, Drive the Firetruck.
It is time for a teacher in-service day. These days are crucial and provide us the much needed time for training, planning, preparation, and cleaning that can’t be achieved while the children are on campus. We are grateful for these opportunities to grow and improve all that we do in service of the children and families.
The Great Shake Out – Thursday, October 21st
Once again the main campus and preschool will participate in the Great California Shake Out. This will be a full earthquake drill involving practicing “Bunnies in the Hole” aka duck & cover as well as a muster onto the main campus for an official headcount.
The elementary/Jr high will also be involved in a pantomime of pretend injuries and other disaster related activities. The preschoolers, however, will muster on the big field grass where we will read books, sing songs, and possibly have a snack before returning to the preschool campus to resume our day.
Parent-Teacher Conferences – Friday, October 22nd
We are so happy to be able to have in-person conferences once again this year. Please keep your eyes peeled for classroom emails with the specific details and SignUp.com links for you to use.
Childcare will be provided for all our current preschoolers. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to accommodate sibling care at this time.
Police Officer Visit – Wednesday, October 27th
The community helper visits carry on with our local Pasadena Police Department sending a car, motorcycle, and even McGruff the crime dog! We look forward to seeing the vehicles, officers, and having a short presentation focusing on child safety.
Apple Pumpkin Days – Thursday, October 28th – Friday, October 29th
Our annual tradition of Apple Pumpkin Days is just around the corner. We will be celebrating this year’s harvest season during the last week of October with special themed books, activities, and treats. Be sure to watch for emails from your classroom teachers or Room Parents about how you can help support this fun filled fall tradition.
Communication – Emails, phone calls, Procare messages…
We work hard at staying connected and will do our best to respond to parent communications during our regular operation hours from 7am until 6pm.
While parents are welcome to send us emails, Procare messages or leave voicemails at any time, outside of emergencies, our staff will respond once they are on campus.
Volunteering at the Preschool
Will you be volunteering on campus this year?
If you are planning on helping out in the classroom or during a special event, we will need a signed Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement on file for you.
We are including a links to the Pasadena Christian School’s Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement for your reference and use as well as the 2021-2022 MVP Program Info Sheet so you know how you can complete your hours this year.
