Yay October! Fall has come and it has brought a few cool days (and some really warm ones) but with it we have a few special celebrations. Apple/Pumpkin Day is one of those special times that we get to celebrate; not just once but two days! From special snacks to art and fun stories we have had a couple of busy days. Here are a couple of pictures of what we did.
We also made apple prints and did a fine motor activity with apple erasers and tongs.
We loved having the opportunity to have parents in our classrooms and we look forward to seeing more of you guys as the year progresses!
Speech and Language Screenings – Monday, Nov. 1st & Tuesday, Nov. 2nd
Speech and language pathologist from Jabberdogs will be providing screenings for receptive and expressive language, voice, articulation and fluency for a fee of $30. If you are interested in participating, please be sure to fill out and return the Permission Slip by Friday, October 29th.
The “big kids” from our elementary campus will be visiting the preschool for a command, outdoor, musical performance. These budding musicians will play a brief selection of songs as well as share with us the details of what instrument they play and how they work.
Special Fall Art Project – Thursday, Nov. 11th & Friday, Nov. 12th
The preschool is thrilled to announce our first special art project of the year! Ms. Jen (a Room 1 mom and artist) will be coming in to facilitate a fall themed art project with all of our kiddos over two days. Each classroom will have an opportunity to go into our preschool Art Studio to work with Ms. Jen and create their own masterpiece.
Preschool Chapel – Friday, Nov. 17th
This month’s chapel will focus on the story of Noah’s Ark. The children adore this story and its emphasis on family, animals, and listening to God. We can hardly wait to worship and praise God together.
Farm Days – Thursday, Nov. 18th & Friday, Nov. 19th
On-site Field Trip
We will be continuing the Harvest celebration with on-site themed activities for all the children over these two days. Songs, stories, games, and a few special animal visitors. Be sure to check with your classroom for volunteer/MVP opportunities.
Veterans Day – Thursday, Nov. 11th
The preschool will be open for Veterans Day. We are thankful and eternally grateful to all the men and women who have served our country and look forward to honoring both their sacrifice and service.
Stone Soup Days – Monday, Nov. 22nd & Tuesday, Nov. 23rd
Stone Soup Days are one of the biggest preschool events of the year. Based on the beloved children’s book, Stone Soup, each child brings a vegetable/food item to class to contribute to the community/class pot of soup. Your classroom teachers or Room Parents will let you know the details of how you can pitch-in and be a part of this wonderful preschool annual tradition.
Wednesday, November 24th
The day before our Preschool Thanksgiving Break is a Minimum Day. The preschool will close promptly at 12 noon.
Thanksgiving Break – Thursday, November 25th – Friday, November 26th
The preschool will be closed for Thanksgiving Break on the second half of the 4th week of November. We hope and pray that everyone has a tremendous time off reflecting on what they are thankful for.
From our preschool family to yours’…
May God continue to bless, protect, guide, and grace you all with His presence, mercy, and love now and in the year to come, Amen.
Students are engaging in all areas of The Outdoor Classroom. With pumpkins, gourds and corn joining our natural elements of leaves, bark, rocks and dirt, creative play has taken on a new level. Stews and soups, ice cream and cakes, whatever you need our friends will make.
Collaborative projects teach children how to work toward a common goal, while fostering cooperation and flexibility. Collaborative activities also create social cohesion and build supportive environments.
When we create collaborative pieces together we’re practicing sharing space, taking turns, communicating and enjoying the process rather than focusing on a finished product.
Integrating natural materials into early childhood art projects enrich the overall learning experience. Exploring natural materials gives children the opportunity to experience an array of textures, shapes and colors. It also increases their knowledge of the world and objects in it, all while fostering a curiosity for the environment.
Friends from Rooms 1, 2 and 3 collected leaves, painted, assembled and glittered these collaborative masterpieces!
We were so excited to meet McGruff the Crime Dog today. Officer Hilda and McGruff explained what strangers are, who we should trust, how to stay safe if we trick-or-treat, plus how to safely ride our bikes. We even were able to take pictures with McGruff! The excitement didn’t stop there, however. After McGruff said goodbye we had a special visit from a Motorcycle Officer Meeks. The kids were able to get up close to check out his ride, ask him questions, and even pose for pictures. It was a fantastic visit!
A special thanks to the Pasadena Police Department for all of their hard work and for taking the time to be with us today.
The preschool participated in the Great Shakeout on Thursday, October 21st at 10:21am. Each classroom practiced Bunnies in the Hole, our duck and cover drill, and then exited their classrooms into the preschool parking lot. The children did a wonderful job listening and following through with all parts of the drill. Great job staying safe everyone!
Our friends in older pod are having an unbeLEAFably good time out on the patio.
Our tiny hands are busy exploring fall sensory materials like goards, oats, dried oranges and cinnamon sticks!
We’re strengthening fine motor muscles as we scoop, pour and pick up small leaves and pumpkins. Also, we’re practicing important skills like sharing space, negotiating, collaborating and communicating with others.
Slime has also been a fall favorite!
With our water feature out of commission for the colder months, we repurposed the space with loose parts play! This is a great example of how we integrate important monthly shape and color concepts. In October, we put a strong emphasis on circles and the color orange. Circles are heavily featured in this open-ended activity that is designed to ignite imaginations.
Here, our older pod friends are making “pizza” together!
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese? Yes, please!
A few friends from Room 1 worked together to decorate an elaborate, multiple tier “wedding cake.”
We LOVE to move our bodies on the patio!
Hopscotch helps our friends develop body control, rhythm, balance, coordination and so much more!
Check out these balance beam buddies!
Apple picking on a balance beam is a huge challenge that our friends are up for.
Building together brings out big smiles!
Mr. Potato Head is a classic toy used to learn parts of a whole. Our friends are concentrating hard as they work to assemble unique variations.
The fall fun isn’t over yet! Stay tuned for more as we let the gourd times roll!
