Garden Collages

Today the students are collaging using clips from garden magazines the parents donated. A fun way to strengthen their little hands and to properly learn how to use the scissors. This project also builds their composition skills. I also love seeing them light up when they recognize a plant or flowers from their gardens at home. -Mrs. Monica

Winter Village

The students had such a fun time with this art project…painting “snow” onto the village to create a winter wonderland. We also shared stories about playing in the snow and going to the mountains. Some of our friends haven’t experienced the snow. I encourage you to take a day trip to go see some snow. We are blessed to live near the mountains…. 😉

Dot Painting

I read the inspiring story, “The Dot,” by Peter Reynolds. It’s an inspiring story about art, not giving up, and seeing where art takes you. The students then painted their very own dot painting and expressed themselves based on the story. Enjoy!

Observational Drawing

The children sculpted a character using Play-Doh and used many different plastic parts such as arms, eyes, legs, nose, hat, mouth to add features to their creation. They then used their fun character to do an observational drawing. Such a fun and silly activity that teaches children to observe and draw their subject. It also builds imagination!

Van Gogh Sunflowers inspired paintings…

The children have been learning about the life of Van Gogh through this fun children’s story, “Van Gogh and the sunflowers”, by Laurence Anholt. We also looked at many photos of sunflowers, fields of sunflowers and Van Gogh’s many still life paintings.

I also demonstrated how to paint a vase filled with flowers, which they loved seeing and creating.

Collaborative Watercolor Banner

We are working on making a banner to hang in the outdoor play area and preschool lobby. It’s a wonderful piece that not only displays whimsical colors but also allows us to showcase everyone’s artwork together and demonstrate collaboration. There will be three large hanging banners and we can’t wait to display them!

Learning About Pop Art & Andy Warhol

This week I started the series of lessons of “Meet the Masters”. We will be learning about different artists and the impact they made on art history. I wanted to start the new year with a “Pop of Color.” Andy Warhol was an American artist who started the movement of Pop Art in the 60’s was a commercial illustrator and producer and he made screen printed art pieces. We looked at several of his prints but specifically “Flower, 1964”. The students then painted their own take on that piece. -Mrs. Monica
