September 2017 Preschool News and Calendar of Events

Dear Parents,

What a fabulous start to the school year we have had! Your little ones are doing such a fabulous job acclimating to their new classrooms and are enjoying all the fun activities we have at preschool. We are enjoying happy days, water play, lots of free play, big field (for the older pod), and so much more! We are also very proud of our mommies and daddies who took great strides to make drop-offs short and sweet, despite a few tearful goodbyes. You have done a great job assuring your little ones that you love them and that you will be back, then handing them to the teachers and separating quickly. These short goodbyes actually reduce stress for the children and allow the kiddos to process their emotions so they can gain their confidence and independence to feel secure at school. Well done, Parents!

NEWS, NOTES & MORE

Back to School Night: A huge thank you to all who came out to Back to School Night! We appreciate your time and commitment. If you weren’t able to come, please be sure to get the packet from your child’s teacher so you can stay in the loop!

Tell Your Friends! If you love them, we’ll love them! If you have friends who are interested in enrolling for the 2018-2019 school year, online applications for next school year will be available on the PCS website in the next week or so. We have numerous applications for next year already, so tell your friends to tour, attend an Observation Day, and apply EARLY to get on our applicant list for 2018-2019. Be sure they tell us who referred them! We LOVE our word-of-mouth referrals!

Please read through these very important “housekeeping” items to help us stay safe and run smoothly…

Classroom Sign-in Logs: Per state licensing, a FULL SIGNATURE is required on our classroom sign-in logs. We can be fined for non-compliance of this, so please help us stay in compliance by signing your full signature each day.

Unattended Drop-Offs: Be sure to ONLY leave your child in the care of a teacher when dropping off. Students should never be dropped off to an empty classroom or left on the yard with another classroom. In addition, please do not let your child go ahead of you into a classroom unattended in the morning while you are checking in.

Siblings at School: Just a gentle reminder that if you bring a younger sibling to school during drop-off and pick-up, please keep them within arms reach at all times. Please do not leave them unattended on the yard, in the lobby, in the car, or in the classrooms, even if you think you will be “just a second.” We appreciate your cooperation!

Parking Lot: In a perfect world, we would have a giant parking lot with ample space for everyone. Unfortunately, our parking lot is small and hard to maneuver. To help us through the morning rush, please drive slowly, park carefully, and keep your morning drop-offs (especially between 7:50-9:00) very short. Avoid parking along the wall when possible. Believe it or not, the parking lot is nearly VACANT until about 7:47am! Come early and avoid the rush!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Preschool Picture Day – We are currently in the process of switching vendors and securing a date for fall preschool photos. We will let you know the date soon. Note that the photo day on Sept. 8th is for the elementary school.

In-Service Day: September 29th – This is a non-student day. In-service days allow time for teacher training, resetting classrooms, school advancement, curriculum building, and so much more. On this day, teachers will be completing the new state-required Mandated Reporter Training and working on your students’ Developmental Profiles. Have a good long weekend with your Little Blessings 🙂

Site Work Day – October 21st. – DOUBLE MVP Hours available! Keep an eye out for the Site Work Day Sign-up! Help us deep clean cubbies, beautify the garden, till the sandbox, and haul in our fresh new mulch.

Moonlight Magic – There will be three Moonlight Magic events this year: Oct. 13, Feb. 2 and March 16. This is YOUR chance to have a night on the town (or in the quiet of your own home watching Netflix!) while your little ones are safe in our care enjoying flashlight parties, pajama dance-offs, pizza and a movie. Registration is required, so sign up early! Elementary-aged siblings may attend the BYH Moonlight Magic on the same night.

PARENT TEACHER FELLOWSHIP (PTF):

MVP Booklets/Hours: All families should have received their YELLOW MVP booklet. Please record your volunteer hours in these books. You can have your hours signed off by the office staff, Room Parents, volunteer coordinators of specific events, PTF Reps, etc. Every family is required to complete 10 hours (or 20 hours if you have students at the elem/jr. high) before the end of the school year. You can turn in your book as soon as it is complete!

If you didn’t receive on at Back to School Night or in your mailbox, we have a few at the front desk.

2017 April News and Calendar of Events

Dear Parents,

Spring has sprung and we are bounding towards summer! We are on the home stretch! The mood at the preschool has been filled with fun as the warmer weather has allowed for some water play (off an on, anyway!) and sunny days outdoors. Many classrooms are also delving into the wonderful world of insects and you should be seeing caterpillars, silk worms and more making their way into the school. We had our annual Association Meeting last week and we recognized Monica and Joy for their 5 years of service, as well as Pam for her 10 years! Feel free to send a warm thank you their way. Our fabulous parents are one of the many reasons our staff enjoy LONG working tenures at PCS :-). In fact, our 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Gallego, just celebrated 30 years and Dr. Gray was not far behind, with a whopping 25 years at PCS!

October News and Calendar of Events

Can you believe school has been in session over a month already? We are now “falling” into the autumn season…one of our favorites here at preschool. Though the weather isn’t necessarily cooperating (20-30 degrees cooler would be much more on par with ‘fall’ weather!), all the classrooms are gearing up to study fall, harvest and all that this season brings. Within the next week or so, you will see our Outdoor Classroom transform into a festival of color with pumpkins, gourds, and more adorning the yard.

In the News:

Moonlight Magic: Moonlight Magic is right around the corner (Friday, October 14th). Please sign up by October 10th to reserve your child’s space (flyer attached). You can enjoy an evening out while the children enjoy “Moonlight” yard time (complete with flashlights or glow sticks!), pajama parties, pizza, then popcorn and a movie!

Speech Assessments: Justine Sherman & Associates will be conducting speech screenings on October 11th & 12th. These screenings help assess your child’s expressive and receptive language, as well as his/her articulation. These screenings are optional and cost $45. A permission form is required and will be sent out next week. Please discuss with your child’s teacher their recommendation for your child.

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Conferences will be held October 28th. Sign-ups will be available next week. This is a non-student day. Care will be provided for students during your scheduled conference time. Please make every effort to attend these conferences as this is your opportunity to talk with the teachers one-on-one and your teacher will share with you your child’s progress thus far.

Observation Days: PCS offers several formal Observation Days where prospective parents can listen to a short message from Dr. Gray and then tour the campuses. If you are interested in PCS TK or Kindergarten, this is a great opportunity for you to see the school in action. Also, if you have friends who would enjoy PCS, please mention our Observation Days to them! To sign up, visit http://www.pasadenachristian.org/admissions/observationdayres.cfm

Save the Date: Vision Screenings

Pasadena Christian Preschool will be offering free vision screenings for our Older Pod students (Room 1, 2 & 3) on Tuesday, September 27th and Wednesday, September 28th 2016.
Why are vision screenings important?  Early detection and intervention of vision issues help children to be successful in their overall development and well-being.
Vision screenings are important and can benefit children by detecting any eye conditions early on. Often, due to lack of prior screenings, vision problems aren’t diagnosed  until the elementary school years.
Please use this information to help aid your child’s vision health and have your child participate in the Elks vision screening offered at school. Or, schedule a vision screening with your pediatric optometrist.
Here’s a quick list of some ways to identify if your child is having vision problems:
  • Squinting
  • Eyes turning inward or outward
  • Headaches
  • Holding reading material or pictures closer than normal
  • Rubbing eyes
  • Turning or tilting head to use one eye only
We are looking forward to your child’s participation in these screenings. Permission forms are required. Please be on the lookout for permission forms in your email and in the front office.

September 2016 News & Calendar of Events

Dear Parents,

What a great start to the year! Our little ones have settled in so well and we are so proud of them. We are also extremely pleased by how all of our mommies and daddies have made drop offs “short and sweet.” We know it is so hard to separate from a crying child, but separating with a sincere “I love you” and “I will be back soon” actually makes the transition quicker, smoother, and easier on everyone. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

In the News:

We are very excited to show you all we’ve been working on this year at OPEN HOUSE (Friday, May 6th). Also, we can’t wait to play in the water at the End-of-Year picnic (May 21) and are looking forward to our Pre-K Graduation Ceremony (June 3). This month will definitely be fast and furious…so hang on for the ride!

In the News:

Moonlight Magic and Auction – Thank you to all of you who joined in the fun at Moonlight Magic and the dinner auction. Both events were amazing and we thank you for your participation.

May 6 – Open House @ 6:00 (6:30 for PCS) – 8:00 – MINIMUM DAY – This is a great event to see your child’s classroom and browse through other classrooms to see what is in store for your child down the road. You may also want to check out the baby chicks in kindergarten, the art fair in the auditorium, and the other fun going on across campus.

Preschool Promotion Ceremony June 2nd , 7:00 – Children and families in Rooms 1 & 2 are invited to our Preschool Promotion Ceremony in celebration of their upcoming move to Pre-K, TK or Kindergarten! Family Picnic – May 21, 11:00 – 1:00 – We hope you will join us at our annual year end picnic! This event is held on the PCS FIELD and features water play, bouncy houses, crafts, and more. Bring a lunch or purchase one using the order form. See you there!

Birthday Celebrations at School: We love to celebrate your child’s special day. Please help us make this day special by following these simple guidelines:

  1. Schedule your child’s special day with your child’s teacher prior to the event
  2. Birthdays at school are “recognitions”, not parties; please keep them simple with one small treat per child
  3. Treats must be store bought
  4. We appreciate treats to be on the healthier side as we have numerous children to recognize throughout the year. This helps us support our Healthy Kids/Sugar Reduced policy. The idea of special recognition and attention is more important to most children than the treat itself.

March 2016 News & Calendar of Events

What a “Love-ly” February we had celebrating Valentine’s Day and God’s love for us! All of our classrooms enjoyed Valentine’s Parties, heart/love themed cooking experiences, creating heart-felt cards, and more! With spring and Easter just around the corner, March will be just as fun!

In the News:

Online re-enrollment is a breeze! Simply click on the link to your personalized enrollment package, update necessary information, and submit payment for the registration and facilities fees. Please be sure your enrollment package correlates to your DESIRED schedule of attendance. If it does not match, please inform us PRIOR to starting so we can fix the error.

New Applications for 2016-2017 – Did you know that your referrals are a primary source of new students? We are SO honored and we can’t thank you enough for the confidence and praise! Please spread the word that applications are now being accepted for next year. The younger pod is already on a waiting list, but there are just a few spaces left in Rooms 1, 2 and 3.

Summer Registration – Just a reminder that summer registration is under way. Reserve now, pay later… please submit by April 8th to guarantee your spot and to have tuition billed to your statement.

Kinder Camp Registration – Please note that Kinder Camp requires a 1/3 deposit with your registration forms. The remaining 2/3 can be billed in 2 increments.

Drop offs – Want to make your drop-offs quicker, easier and less stressful? Did you know the parking lot is nearly EMPTY at 7:53am, but FULL by 8:02? Backing up your drop off by just a few minutes will allow you to get in and out quickly…AND you will still have time to swing through a Starbucks before your next destination!  😉

Mom’s Club Preschool Fair – PCS had the honor of hosting the Mom’s Club Preschool Fair on our campus on Saturday, February 6th.
