The Great California ShakeOut 2025

Today, our preschool participated in the Great California ShakeOut, and we couldn’t be prouder of the kiddos for their remarkable performance during the emergency drill. After a thorough “duck and cover” practice in our cozy classrooms, we congregated on the “big field,” surrounded by eager elementary and junior high students who were simulating an actual disaster, complete with an emergency triage first-aid station. The entire drill lasted almost 25 minutes, but throughout the experience, our young learners displayed incredible focus, listening intently to their teachers and following directions with unwavering enthusiasm. Their commitment to safety shone brightly, making the event both educational and inspiring. The children were also delighted to see members of the Pasadena Police and Fire Department on campus to witness our drill.

Great job, everyone!

News and Reminders 2025

We have so much to look forward to in October…

Fire Station Visit – Thursday, October 2nd & Friday, October 3rd

We are excited to have a special visit from our Local Fire Station! They will stop by the preschool at 9:30 a.m. on both days, bringing the truck, crew, and some surprises in tow. We can’t wait to see everything up close and in person. Hurry up, drive the fire truck! (These will be active crews, so if an emergency should arise, they might need to leave quickly.)

One of our favorite preschool firefighter songs is ‘Hurry, Hurry, Drive the Firetruck.’

Preschool Chapel – Thursday, October 9th

Our second chapel of the year is here! For our first chapel together, we focused on the Creation Story. We are now moving on to Adam and Eve and discussing the power of choices, consequences, and God’s love.

Oh my gosh…we need squash!

Over the first weeks of October, we will collect pumpkins, squash, and gourds of all shapes and sizes in the preschool lobby and create our own Preschool Pumpkin Patch!

If you would like to contribute, every $25 donation counts towards 1 hour of MVP.

After we refresh the preschool on Parent Site Workday, Saturday, October 11th, we will redistribute all our squash across the campus from the Outdoor Classroom to Rooms 1 through 5, as well as to our toddlers.

Thanks for donating! We can’t wait to see how big our Pumpkin Patch will become.

Parent Site Workday – Saturday, October 11th

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Parent Site Work Day is just around the corner; don’t miss your chance to help our preschool, build community, and earn MVP hours.

There are two ways to participate in this year’s event.

  1. Donate materials/supplies. (Every $25 spent is worth 1 hr. of MVP.)
  2. Help at the event. (Psst…volunteering to work at this event is worth double hours. Work 2 and receive 4. 😉

We will clean the classrooms, power wash the patios, add sand and wood chips, and perform other necessary tasks. Please use the SignUp.com link below to join in all the fun.

We’re using SignUp.com to organize. Here’s how it works in 3 easy steps:

The Great ShakeOut – Thursday, October 16th

Once again, the preschool will take part in the Great California ShakeOut. This will be a full-scale earthquake drill that includes practicing “Bunnies in the Hole,” our “duck & cover” drill, and gathering on the main campus with the TK through 8th grade for an official headcount.

The preschoolers will meet in our parking lot, then walk to the large grassy field, where we will read books, sing songs, and maybe have a snack before returning to the preschool campus to finish our day.

Teacher In-Service Day – Friday, October 17th – STUDENT FREE

It is time for a teacher-in-service day. These days are essential and give us the necessary time for training, planning, preparation, and cleaning that can’t be done while the children are on campus. We appreciate these opportunities to grow and improve everything we do in service of the children and families.

Candid Student Photos – Tues., Oct. 21st & Wed., Oct. 22nd

They’re back! We will once again take candid photos of all the kids at preschool this year. These photos differ from traditional school photos because they aim to capture the kids in action. Our photographer, Adrea Scheidler, is a PCS mom with extensive experience capturing those adorable preschool smiles. After the photos are taken, Ms. Adrea will provide families with individual links for viewing and purchasing options.

Thursday, October 23rd

MINIMUM DAY – NOON DISMISSAL

Our first day of Parent Conferences will be a minimum day with a noon dismissal. If you will be at school on Thursdays, please arrive promptly at pickup, as our first conference will start at 12:15 p.m.

Parent-Teacher Conferences – Thursday, Oct. 23rd & Friday, October 24th

Fall Conferences are here! This is a great opportunity for families to meet with their classroom teaching team to discuss the students, what we’ve accomplished so far, and plans for the upcoming days. Please use the links below to select your preferred conference day, then choose your specific classroom and conference time on SignUp.com.

Childcare will be available for all currently enrolled preschoolers and their siblings. Please see Mr. Tim or Ms. Kohar if you need non-preschool siblings to be included in the care during your conference.

The Hear Center – Monday, October 27th & Tuesday, October 28th

The Hear Center will be at the preschool to offer free hearing checks for our students. Families will have the opportunity to sign up by filling out a permission slip. Permission slips will be available in the preschool lobby starting the week of October 13th.

The PCS elementary campus will host the Hear Center at the beginning of October for their students, while the preschool will host it at the end of the month.

Apple Pumpkin Days – Thursday, October 30th – Friday, October 31st

Our annual Apple Pumpkin Days celebration is approaching. During the last week of October, we will celebrate this year’s harvest with special themed books, activities, and treats. Keep an eye on emails from your classroom teachers or Room Parents for ways you can help support this fun fall event.

Communication – Emails, phone calls, Procare messages…

We work hard to stay connected and will do our best to respond to parental communications within our regular hours, which are from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. While parents are welcome to send us emails, Procare messages, or leave voicemails at any time, outside of emergencies, our staff will respond once they are on campus.

Volunteering at the Preschool

Will you be volunteering on campus this year?

If you plan to assist in the classroom or during a special event, we require a signed Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement to be on file.

Click Here to view the Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement.

Hard copies are available in the Preschool Office.

Older Pod Field Trip to Underwood Family Farms – Friday, November 21st

Mark your calendars! Rooms 1, 2, & 3 will be going on our traditional fall field trip to Underwood Family Farm this year, yay! It has been three years since we enjoyed this fantastic outing, and we can’t wait. More details will be released throughout the month.

Rooms 4, 5, and Toddlers will enjoy Farm Days on-site with special farm animal guests.

News and Reminders 2025

Can you believe we are already in the last month of the school year? Time has flown by since our first week together in August! We have had a wonderful year at preschool, and we are excited about what is still to come in the weeks ahead.

Additionally, this is a great opportunity to explore our elementary campus, which will be hosting its Open House from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., including an Art Show in the school auditorium featuring work from all our preschoolers. We hope to see everyone there!

The first whole week of May is Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week. Our fantastic teachers and staff do a tremendous job, and we look forward to showing them our gratitude.

For May, our Fruit of the Spirit is Goodness. We will explore what occurred after Christ rose from the tomb and how God sent a special helper, the Holy Spirit, to guide us in following Jesus.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

We’re looking forward to a fantastic time together!

We will celebrate the end of the school year with our traditional classroom Pizza Parties. Of course, the preschool will provide pizza, but there will be classroom sign-ups for additional side items such as fruit, paper goods, and table décor. The classrooms will share those sign-ups around the middle of May.

The preschool will be closed to celebrate and remember all the brave men and women who have and continue to uphold and defend our nation here in the United States and around the world. Their service and sacrifice are greatly appreciated and deserve profound recognition and unceasing gratitude. Thank you for your service.

We felt that aloha was the perfect sentiment for the last two days of our preschool year. So, hello to summer, goodbye to our year together, and of course, I love you.

We invite all the kids to dress in their brightest, most tropical, and Hawaiian best on Wednesday and Thursday. We will also celebrate the conclusion of our year with special photo opportunities at drop-off and much more.

This year has been amazing! It is a blessing to watch the children grow, and we are excited to celebrate the students who will be moving on to the next phase of their education, whether here at PCS or beyond.

This year, we will host our traditional promotion ceremony on the main campus in the auditorium from 6 to 7 p.m. The Room 1 & 2 kiddos have been rehearsing some adorable songs and can hardly wait to share them.

Keep your eyes peeled for your invitation, which will include all the details.

The preschool will be closed to students for cleaning and summer prep. However, the preschool office will be open to answer questions and assist with any summer paperwork that may still need to be completed before camp begins.

Our first session of Fun in the Sun: Deep Sea Discovery! and Kinder Camp will kick off on Monday, June 9th. Summers at the preschool are chock-full of good times and new adventures, and we can hardly wait to get started.

Summer Camp Registration

Will you join this year’s Fun in the Sun or Kinder Camp? If so, please submit your registration forms as soon as possible. Spaces are filling up quickly. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the fun at preschool this summer.

Just a friendly reminder of our Preschool Parking Lot Rules/Requests

  1. Please drive carefully, keeping an eye on speed and kiddos in the lot.
  2. Children should be directed to stay on the sidewalk during pick-up and drop-off except when accessing their vehicles. Little people are very hard to spot between cars.
  3. Our lot’s limited spaces make quick drop-offs and pick-ups ideal.

Thanks for helping us keep our little ones safe, healthy, and happy.

Week of the Young Child – Monday, April 7th – Friday, April 11th

Every year, we celebrate the wonderful children we serve and the unique world they inhabit with exciting, week-long festivities. Each day will have its particular theme and events to look forward to. Elks Vision Screening – Wed, April 9th, Thurs, April 10th, & Fri, April 11th

The Elks Vision Screening is a free service provided to preschool children throughout California and Hawaii. This screening will take place on campus, in the Art Studio, as a special event for our students. Teachers will help facilitate the screening by guiding students and assisting during the screening process. If you are interested in participating in this program, please fill out a vision screening form with the Front Desk at either drop-off or pick-up. Children need a Vision Screening Form to participate. Hard copies will be available at the preschool.

Easter Egg Hunts – Wednesday, April 16th and Thursday, April 17th

We will host Egg Hunts on the two days leading up to Good Friday. Each classroom will sponsor and organize our Wednesday egg hunt, while the PCS Admissions Department will sponsor our Thursday event.

We look forward to both days and celebrating the season with this fantastic annual tradition. Parents are welcome to sign up to participate in each event. Please see your individual classroom teachers for more details.

Preschool Chapel – Thursday, April 17th

Our Fruit of the Spirit for April is Faithfulness. What a perfect fruit to reflect God’s plan and promise through His son Jesus Christ. We will read and discuss what transpired on Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday.

45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

Good Friday and Easter Monday– Fri., April 18th & Mon., Apr. 21st, PRESCHOOL CLOSED

We will celebrate the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ by reflecting on the gift that the cross represents for all of us.

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:10

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:2

Easter Sunday – Sunday, April 20th

24On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’” Then they remembered his words. Luke 24:1-8

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:5-6

Hallelujah, He is risen!!

As we cruise toward the end of the year, we wanted to share a few helpful hints, reminders, and requests.

DOORS & KIDS Many of our kiddos want to be helpful and open doors; this is great if a parent or a teacher is present, but potentially dangerous if they aren’t. We want to avoid accidents or injuries.

When dropping off or picking up, please ensure you are with your child before they attempt to open or pass through any of our doors, especially those leading to our parking lot.

SIGNING INAs a state-licensed facility, we are required to have physical signatures for children upon drop-off and pick-up. Please ensure you sign in and out each day. The preschool will be held responsible and potentially fined for every missing signature.

PLAYING AT PICK-UP, CLASSROOM RATIOS, AND TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIESWhen picking up at the end of the day, please be mindful of the other students and teachers who may still be present in the environment.

Our fantastic staff is legally responsible for the children who are still signed in for the day but, due to ratios and other concerns, cannot watch children who have been signed out, especially if they are from another class. That is why we ask adults to limit the time spent in classrooms and passing through our outdoor spaces, patios, and yards.

Additionally, as a licensed facility, we are prohibited from allowing older and younger siblings who aren’t enrolled in the preschool to play in our environment during our regular hours of operation. While siblings are welcome to come for drop-off and pick-up, they must always stay with their adults while in the preschool.

Families are welcome to take a moment in the lobby to visit the turtles, look at or borrow a book from our lending library, check out the “Zany Zoo” on your way out, or enjoy the swing. When enjoying the swing, please be mindful of the parking lot and the cross traffic.

News and Reminders 2025

We are springing into spring and can hardly wait to see what hatches around the preschool.

Did you know Dr. Seuss wrote Green Eggs and Ham using only 50 words? Published in 1960, the book originated from a wager between Bennett Cerf, Random House’s publisher and co-founder, and Theodor Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. “Bennett Cerf bet me I couldn’t write a book with 50 words or fewer, and I wanted to show him that I could,” said Dr. Seuss.

Over the past 60 years, Dr. Seuss’s books and stories have shaped and continue to influence early childhood literature. We will celebrate him and his contributions at preschool by reading several of his books this month. Thank you, Dr. Seuss, for igniting our imaginations and love of rhyme and introducing us to the worlds within books.

Did you miss our first picture day, or are you hoping for a redo? Make-up Picture Day will be your final chance to officially capture those preschool smiles. Please let us know if you need your picture taken by stopping by the front desk. On Tuesday and Thursday, friends are also welcome to drop by and take their pictures!

Our Fruit of the Spirit for March is gentleness. We will explore what it means to be gentle and read the Parable of the Lost Sheep. Since it is March, we will also discuss St. Patrick, his ministry, and how he used the clover to illustrate the nature of the Trinity, three in one. Chapel is always a wonderful time spent together in worship, fellowship, and praise of the Lord.

Monday, March 10th and Tuesday, March 11th – PRESCHOOL OPEN

The preschool will not be closed for the PCS Mini Spring Break. We will be open for our regular hours on Monday and Tuesday.

Summer Camp Registration – DUE: Friday, March 15th

Will you join us for our Preschool Fun in the Sun or Kinder Camp this year? If so, be sure to submit your summer camp registration forms as soon as possible. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the fun at the preschool this summer and to split your summer tuition into two payments.

St. Patrick’s Day – Monday, March 17th

With a touch of the blarney, we will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year with leprechauns, shamrocks, and so much more. The story of St. Patrick is also an excellent time to talk about the call to spread the gospel to the world.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

Mid-Year Developmental Profiles – Friday, March 21st

Classrooms will email our mid-year reports for all the kiddos this month. Be sure to take a look. Teachers will happily chat with parents who want to discuss the year’s progress and future.

News and Reminders 2025

We adore the month of love and look forward to all the exciting things happening as we celebrate!

Since it is the month of love, we will focus on where love comes from for chapel. After all, G.O.D. is L.O.V.E. We look forward to coming together to worship and celebrate God’s love for each of us and our love for Him and each other.

1 John 4:7-12

Each classroom will celebrate the holiday with special festivities on Thursday, February 13th, and Friday, February 14th. Please be sure to look for classroom-specific details about what they’ll be doing, including how each classroom will handle Valentine’s Day favors.

Here are a few quick suggestions…

  • Avoid edible treats. Instead, themed pencils, crayons, erasers, stickers, or other small items would be great gifts.
  • Simple and small is always best.
  • On the cards, sign – To: My Friend         From: Your Child’s Name
  • Due to flux schedules, not all the kids know each other, but it is easier to give to everyone than to figure out who comes on which day. The classrooms will provide a total head count for each room.
  • Avoid the “Boy/Girl” Valentine trap. Allow your child to select the Valentine’s they wish to give instead of worrying about how many boys and girls there are. The kids get so much more out of the reflected diversity of their peers’ interests and the things they want to give.
  • You are not obligated to give out Valentine’s cards or treats, but you are welcome to participate as you see fit.

While we don’t typically study American history or civics deeply as part of the preschool experience, we are happy to celebrate two of our nation’s most influential leaders and the role presidents play in shaping and guiding our country.

My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right. Abraham Lincoln

We are excited to announce an on-site field trip to the snow this winter! Starting Tuesday, February 18th, we are turning the yard into a winter wonderland with snow! Arctic Glacier, an outside company specializing in snow/ice events, will provide the snow. Each classroom will have an opportunity to explore the frosty fun as an extension of their classroom’s yard time.

We recommend bundling up your little ones on those days and sending snow-appropriate clothes, footwear, and extra clothes to change into after the event.

*This event will be postponed if the forecast calls for rain on either of our planned days.

It is time to capture those adorable preschool smiles once again! Preschool Picture Days have arrived.

The preschool will host School Pictures from Julie Lilly Photography on Thursday, February 20th, and Friday, February 21st Please look out for more information from your child’s teachers about which day has been assigned to you.

Families will receive an envelope for their child’s picture purchase the week prior to Picture Days (February 10th-14th). Please complete it and return it to the preschool office on or before Picture Day.

Please let us know if you have any questions; we are happy to help!!

Staying Healthy at Preschool

We want to thank all of our families for their support and understanding as we navigate the winter months and the challenges of keeping our preschool healthy and safe. A few things to keep in mind…

If you notice your child is under the weather or displaying any signs or symptoms of potential illness, please exercise caution, keep them home, and monitor their condition. While most preschool illnesses are common and pass quickly, some are much more concerning, such as RSV.

State regulations also remind us that children may not attend school if they have had a fever, vomited, or had diarrhea in the last 24 hours. This means if your child experiences any of these conditions, they must stay home from school the following day and may return to school the day after. For example, if they have a fever on Monday, the potential first day back would be Wednesday. The same standard holds true if a child is sent home from school with any of these issues.

Please know that our team will be monitoring our kiddos, and we will contact families if we spot signs or symptoms while they’re on campus. Conversely, we appreciate parent support in our staff’s discernment regarding a child’s presence at school. Often, sick children may be cleared by a doctor to return to school but may present minor symptoms such as a lingering cough or runny nose.

Our team greatly appreciates parent notification when their child is out due to illness. It’s essential for tracking, informing other families if needed, and potentially preventing further spread. Those notifications also give us peace of mind and allow us to keep you in our prayers.

News and Reminders 2024

The holiday season is here and in full swing at the preschool.  Here are a few quick reminders about what we will look forward to over December.

We are kicking off December with our Preschool Christmas chapel! All the classes will gather to worship and experience the Nativity Story with Mr. Tim. This is one of our favorite chapels of the year as we remember the reason for the season.

Rooms 1 & 2 will perform with the upper campus in our auditorium, while Rooms 3, 4, 5, & Toddlers will present at the preschool.

All grandparents should plan to park at our Garfield Parking Lot located at 1492 N Garfield Ave., Pasadena, CA. 91104.

The preschool parking lot will be reserved for handicapped parking and drop-off/pick-up only.

  • Head straight to the auditorium.
  • Auditorium doors open at 8:30 a.m.
  • The program will start at 9:00 a.m.
  • The performance will end at roughly 10:00 a.m., giving grandparents with children in Rooms 3, 4, or 5 the time to walk to the preschool.
  • At 10 a.m., the grandparents of our Room 1 & 2 friends will be able to visit with their students in their classrooms.
  • Grandparents with children in Rooms 1 or 2 and Rooms 3, 4, 5, or Toddlers will also be able to visit the classrooms before Rooms 3, 4, 5, and Toddlers performance at 10:50 a.m.
  • Head to the preschool after the main campus performance.
  • Preschool doors will open at 10:00 a.m. so grandparents can visit the classrooms.
  • The Younger Pod performance will start at 10:50 a.m.

This is a MINIMUM DAY; grandparents are welcome to take students post-performances. If a grandparent or other adult will pick up your kiddo, please use the link below to fill out our Grandparents Day 2024—Pick Up form. Children will only be released to grandparents or other adults with permission from parents.

CLICK HERE: GRANDPARENT’S DAY 2024 – PICK UP FORM

Tuesday/Thursday students welcome. Please speak to the teachers if you want your child to participate in the performance.

Happy Birthday, Jesus! is a SATURDAY MORNING EVENT; this annual preschool tradition will occur at the preschool and in the PCS auditorium. Each classroom has been preparing seasonal songs to share with our families.

Event Schedule:

  • 10:00 a.m. – Preschool doors open for Craft Making. You are invited to visit each preschool classroom to create fun Christmas Crafts.
  • 10:50 a.m. – Preschoolers are dropped off in their classrooms, and families head to the PCS auditorium to find seats for our performance.
  • 11:00 a.m. – Preschool Christmas Performance
  • 12:00 p.m. – Event ends

Each classroom will host crafts for everyone to make. This is a beautiful way to earn MVP hours. Room Parents will send details of how you can help support the event by donating supplies, setting up, cleaning up, or helping monitor/host during the event. (Volunteer MVP hours will be doubled at this event; working ½ an hour counts as 1 hour.)

Parking: Garfield Parking Lot located at 1492 N Garfield Ave., Pasadena, CA. 91104.

We will also be parking on the PCS field.

One of our beloved Christmas traditions at preschool is our PJs and Hot Cocoa Days! We love getting cozy and watching a classic Christmas short such as How the Grinch Stole Christmas or Charlie Brown’s Christmas Special. Add a little popcorn, a warm cup of cocoa, and an entire class of friends, and it makes for a beautiful time together.

Monday, December 23rd through Friday, January 3rd

From our preschool family to yours…

May your Christmas season be filled with love, light, and laughter as you gather with family and friends to enjoy festive traditions, remember those you love, create memories, and celebrate the reason for the season. We pray blessings over everyone during the holiday break and look forward to reuniting again in the New Year.

In His service and with deep, heartfelt love,

Pasadena Christian Preschool
