In Room 2, we painted and built an airplane! Our dramatic play area transformed into an airport and we integrated a few thematic elements into our classroom activities, small groups and books we read.

Some of the fun roles our room 2 friends took on in our airport included: pilot, air traffic control, airport employee and traveler!

In our math small group, we played a fun number recognition game. We rolled the dice, counted dots and flew to the “cloud” with the corresponding number.

This is an example of emergent curriculum. When we returned from Christmas break, our friends were discussing travel so we facilitated fun ways for them to keep the conversation going. We built on their experience and knowledge of the world around them. They piloted our play and this is where we landed!
Early childhood literature is so much more than meets the eye. Of course books are fun to read, but they can be utilized to spark important conversations, integrate curriculum, gain perspective and cultivate imagination.
Our littles in Room 2 are enjoying a book called Perfect Square by Michael Hall. It’s about a perfectly happy square that gets cut, torn, shredded, shattered and poked full of holes. Just when you think it’s ruined it’s transformed into beautiful, much less confining things.
On a practical level, we can explain themes of perseverance, creativity and flexibility but as believers we see an even deeper moral of the story—
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
We are so thankful that God takes our pain, our brokenness, our shattered pieces, our disappointments and gives us the opportunity to use it for his glory. We get to be continually shaped and molded into HIS likeness—what’s more beautiful than that?
This literary art project is just one example of how we integrate the monthly shape (square) and the monthly colors (blue and white) from our curriculum skills sheets into fun and practical learning experiences. Check out some of the awesome things our Room 2 friends turned their square into.

At our preschool, November is all about FARM FUN! Room 2 has enjoyed reading stories, playing games, creating art and delving into harvest concepts.
This week we enjoyed a special visit from a few farm friends! Check out some of our farm fun!

Room 2 had so much fun with our Apple Pumpkin Day activities we continued today! Let the good times roll!
We put our chef’s hats on to create mini apple turnovers!

Thank you to our Room 2 parent volunteers for bringing all our ingredients!
In small groups today, Room 2 experimented with baking soda and vinegar! We made predictions, used pipettes and were amazed by the chemical reactions!

Happy Apple Pumpkin Day 2! Our littles in Room 2 conducted an experiment to find out which liquid would dissolve a pumpkin candy-corn the fastest. Check out our little scientists identifying the liquids, smelling the vinegar, tasting the “pumpkin” sample and making predictions.

In Room 2, our kiddos enjoyed a virtual visit from their grown ups. Together, we read P is for Pumpkin: God’s Harvest Alphabet by Kathy-Jo Wargin and Apples and Pumpkins by Anne Rockwell.

Thank you to our fabulous parent volunteers!
Happy Apple Pumpkin Day! Our friends in Room 2 had a smashing fun day!
We enjoyed a fun and festive apple graham cracker delight!

Check out some of our beautiful apple and pumpkin themed art!

Today, we dissected a pumpkin together! We explored the seeds and pulp for a sensory experience. We also cut out some shapes to create a jack-o-lantern. We named him Jojo!

Pumpkin pounding was a great way for us to build some fine motor skills!

Oh My Gourdness! We had a blast doing some indoor pumpkin and gourd bowling!

September has been a blast! We’ve been hard at work in Room 2. Check out some highlights from our month together.
In small groups, we’ve done fun things like drawing our family portraits, shape sorting, making “shape soup,” creating shape sun catchers, apple sorting to recognize the letters Aa and Bb, dot counting, color mixing with play dough and more!

On Wednesdays, we walk over to the elementary school where we get to enjoy “The Big Field.” We get our bodies moving with gross motor activities that build coordination and cooperative skills.

As we play, we’re building friendships, gaining knowledge about the world around us, using fun materials that help shape us into thinkers, artists, engineers, storytellers, caring family members and so much more!

Most importantly, we’re learning God’s word! We love singing our Bible memory verse songs. Having God’s word in our heart is the most important and most effective way to grow socially and emotionally. It’s the roadmap we use to navigate how we interact with God and with others. We highly recommend singing along at home to: Steve Green’s Hide ‘Em in your Heart Vol. 1 and 2 — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqe4xkD6FVk&list=PLnBE6CMNMLh01KgWRc9lseCt-34_AnlQc
We’re so happy to see our friends growing together. As we head into a new season, we’re excited for all the fall fun ahead!
