Snow Days 2022!

Snow Days – Thurs., Feb. 10th & Fri., Feb. 11th

Our Snow Days have arrived at last and we are so excited! The forecast for Pasadena Christian Preschool is calling for snow and 88 degree weather.

What should my preschooler wear to play in the snow and heat?

That is a wonderful question! We recommend wearing boots or other water resistant shoes with good grip and clothes that can get wet. Full snowsuits and heavy jackets aren’t necessary but snow pants and gloves are welcome.

Please also be sure to send a weather appropriate change of clothes for after our snowy adventures.

A new location for our preschool blizzard.

Last year we hosted our Snow Days in the preschool parking lot. This year we have decided to shift the snow fall into our play yard and the woodchip area. We wanted to maximize the amount of time the kiddos get to explore the snow/ice. Especially since it took about a week to completely melt. This will be the first time anything quite like this has happened in our yard and we are very curious to see how it goes.

Hip, hip, hooray for Snow Days!!

2022 News & Reminders

We adore the month of love and are looking forward to all the exciting things that will happen over the next four weeks!

Snow Days – Thurs., Feb. 10th & Fri., Feb. 11th

Starting on Thursday, February 10th, we are turning the back end of the preschool parking lot into our very own winter wonderland with actual snow! The snow will be provided by an outside company, Arctic Glacier, who specializes in snow/ice events. Each classroom will have an opportunity to explore the frosty fun as an extension of their classroom’s yard time.

We recommend bundling up your little ones on those days and sending snow appropriate clothes and footwear plus sending extra clothes to change into after the event. Each classroom will have a half hour window of time to play in the snow on both Thursday and Friday.

*This event will be postponed if the forecast calls for rain on either of our planned days.

Valentine’s Day Parties – Mon., Feb. 14th & Tues., Feb 15th

Each classroom will be celebrating the holiday with special festivities in their classrooms on both Monday, February 14th and Tuesday, February 15th. Please be sure to keep a look out for classroom specific details about what they’ll be doing. This includes how each classroom will handle Valentine’s Day favors.

Here are a few quick suggestions…

♥Avoid edible treats. Instead, themed pencils, crayons, erasers, stickers, or other small items would be a great gift idea.

♥Simple and small is always best.

♥On the cards, sign – To: My Friend         From: Your Child’s Name

♥Due to flux schedules, not all the kids know each other but it makes it easier to give to everyone vs. figuring out who comes which day. The classrooms will provide a total head count for each room.

♥Please avoid the “Boy”/”Girl” Valentine trap. Allow your child to select a Valentine’s they wish to give vs. worrying about who is a boy and who is a girl. The kids get so much more out of the reflected diversity of their peers’ interests and the things they like.

♥There is no obligation to give out Valentine’s card/treats but you are welcome to participate as you see fit.

Teacher In-service Day – Fri., Feb. 18th – PRESCHOOL CLOSED

Teacher In-service Days are crucial and provided us the much needed time for training, planning, preparation, and cleaning that can’t be achieved while the children are on campus. We are grateful for these opportunities to grow and improve all that we do in service of the children and families.

Presidents’ Day – Mon., Feb. 21st – PRESCHOOL CLOSED

While we don’t typically do a deep study of American history or civics as a part of the preschool experience, we are happy to celebrate two of our nation’s most influential leaders and the role presidents play in shaping and guiding our country.

Let us raise standard to which the wise and honest can repair; the rest is in the hands of God. – George Washington

My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right. – Abraham Lincoln

The Preschool and COVID-19

We want to thank all of our families for their support and understanding as we have navigated the challenges of keeping our preschool healthy and safe as well as open during this ongoing pandemic. This last wave of COVID-19 hit us harder than any of the previous ones and it has been a struggle for our entire preschool community. That is why we wanted to take a moment and acknowledge the deep frustrations and concerns of everyone involved.

The preschool’s mission is to do everything in our power to serve our preschool community to the best of our ability. It is our continued prayer that God will bless us with health as well as grace us with wisdom as we seek to follow Him and the mandates set before us by state and local authorities. While it has been daunting, we know that God is in control and we can see the light ahead. This situation will improve and God will provide us with all the resources we need to persevere.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on our own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

McGruff the Crime Dog, a Motorcycle, and More! The Pasadena Police Department stopped by the Preschool.

We were so excited to meet McGruff the Crime Dog today. Officer Hilda and McGruff explained what strangers are, who we should trust, how to stay safe if we trick-or-treat, plus how to safely ride our bikes. We even were able to take pictures with McGruff! The excitement didn’t stop there, however. After McGruff said goodbye we had a special visit from a Motorcycle Officer Meeks. The kids were able to get up close to check out his ride, ask him questions, and even pose for pictures. It was a fantastic visit!

A special thanks to the Pasadena Police Department for all of their hard work and for taking the time to be with us today.

Special Visit from the Pasadena Fire Department

On Monday, October 11th we had a fantastic visit from Pasadena Fire Station 36. They showed us how firefighters outfit themselves to fight fires and even how the truck sprays water! It was awesome! This was a lovely addition to the visit we had from Jeff Ragusa, a Glendale firefighter and dad from Rm 1, who showed us his firefighter gear on Friday, October 1st. With both visits, the firefighters focused on helping the children to understand that the don’t have to be afraid when they see a firefighter fully outfitted, they are here to help. The preschoolers loved having all of our firefighters and we are so grateful for their amazing work. Thanks guys, you are our heroes!

Putting on the firefighter gear.
Spraying the water!
Saying Goodbye!

Preschool Campus Update 10.2021

As many of you are aware, Pasadena is dealing with an increased bug population. These tiny pests are, unfortunately, flying, crawling, and worming their way onto our campus and into our lives. Currently we are working with ECOLA, our personal pest management company, to reduce these pernicious creepy crawls as much as possible.

This Friday, October 15th, ECOLA will be treating our play yard and surrounding areas. Attached to this email you will find the specific fact sheets related to what will be used on campus. It is always PCS’s goal to balance safe and effective measures when treating out environment.
