McGruff the Crime Dog, a Motorcycle, and More! The Pasadena Police Department stopped by the Preschool.

We were so excited to meet McGruff the Crime Dog today. Officer Hilda and McGruff explained what strangers are, who we should trust, how to stay safe if we trick-or-treat, plus how to safely ride our bikes. We even were able to take pictures with McGruff! The excitement didn’t stop there, however. After McGruff said goodbye we had a special visit from a Motorcycle Officer Meeks. The kids were able to get up close to check out his ride, ask him questions, and even pose for pictures. It was a fantastic visit!

A special thanks to the Pasadena Police Department for all of their hard work and for taking the time to be with us today.

Special Visit from the Pasadena Fire Department

On Monday, October 11th we had a fantastic visit from Pasadena Fire Station 36. They showed us how firefighters outfit themselves to fight fires and even how the truck sprays water! It was awesome! This was a lovely addition to the visit we had from Jeff Ragusa, a Glendale firefighter and dad from Rm 1, who showed us his firefighter gear on Friday, October 1st. With both visits, the firefighters focused on helping the children to understand that the don’t have to be afraid when they see a firefighter fully outfitted, they are here to help. The preschoolers loved having all of our firefighters and we are so grateful for their amazing work. Thanks guys, you are our heroes!

Preschool Campus Update 10.2021

As many of you are aware, Pasadena is dealing with an increased bug population. These tiny pests are, unfortunately, flying, crawling, and worming their way onto our campus and into our lives. Currently we are working with ECOLA, our personal pest management company, to reduce these pernicious creepy crawls as much as possible.

This Friday, October 15th, ECOLA will be treating our play yard and surrounding areas. Attached to this email you will find the specific fact sheets related to what will be used on campus. It is always PCS’s goal to balance safe and effective measures when treating out environment.

Our Favorite Things

Below, you will find the “Favorite Things” pages for our staff, listed by classroom or work area. Please feel free to use them if you plan to bless or thank them with tokens of appreciation.

Once photos have been taken, Adrea will provide families with individual links for viewing and purchasing options.

Teacher In-Service Day – Friday, October 15th

It is time for a teacher in-service day. We are grateful for these opportunities to grow and improve all that we do in service of the children and families.

The Great Shake Out – Thursday, October 21st

Once again the main campus and preschool will participate in the Great California Shake Out. This will be a full earthquake drill involving practicing “Bunnies in the Hole” aka duck & cover as well as a muster onto the main campus for an official headcount.

The elementary/Jr high will also be involved in a pantomime of pretend injuries and other disaster related activities. The preschoolers, however, will muster on the big field grass where we will read books, sing songs, and possibly have a snack before returning to the preschool campus to resume our day.

Parent-Teacher Conferences – Friday, October 22nd

We are so happy to be able to have in-person conferences once again this year. Please keep your eyes peeled for classroom emails with the specific details and SignUp.com links for you to use.

Childcare will be provided for all our current preschoolers. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to accommodate sibling care at this time.

Police Officer Visit – Wednesday, October 27th

The community helper visits carry on with our local Pasadena Police Department sending a car, motorcycle, and even McGruff the crime dog! We look forward to seeing the vehicles, officers, and having a short presentation focusing on child safety.

Apple Pumpkin Days – Thursday, October 28th – Friday, October 29th

Our annual tradition of Apple Pumpkin Days is just around the corner. We will be celebrating this year’s harvest season during the last week of October with special themed books, activities, and treats. Be sure to watch for emails from your classroom teachers or Room Parents about how you can help support this fun filled fall tradition.

Communication – Emails, phone calls, Procare messages…

We work hard at staying connected and will do our best to respond to parent communications during our regular operation hours from 7am until 6pm.

While parents are welcome to send us emails, Procare messages or leave voicemails at any time, outside of emergencies, our staff will respond once they are on campus.

Volunteering at the Preschool

Will you be volunteering on campus this year?

If you are planning on helping out in the classroom or during a special event, we will need a signed Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement on file for you.

We are including a links to the Pasadena Christian School’s Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement for your reference and use as well as the 2021-2022 MVP Program Info Sheet so you know how you can complete your hours this year.

Birthday/Celebrations

We love to recognize the children and the milestone moments in their lives. Whether acknowledging a birthday or some other special time, our desire is to always appropriately celebrate each momentous occasion with the age and maturity of the children in mind. Below you will find a link to our Birthday Recognition Policy & Pre-approved Birthday Treats list. Please use it as a resource when planning your own special moments that you want to share with us.

Fun in the Sun 2021!

We are so thrilled to be back for summer camp this year! It has been an interesting journey for us, here at the preschool, since the start of the pandemic but we feel very blessed to be back in action for camp again. This of course would not be possible without the amazing talents and dedication of our fantastic staff. We can’t begin to thank each member of our preschool team enough for all they do but we can try. Thank you team, keep up the incredible work! You are deeply loved and greatly appreciated.

We would also like to thank all of our families for entrusting us with the enormous responsibility of caring for their children. It is huge blessing and we are so glad that we can be together enjoying summer camp and all the adventures ahead.

Thank you God for your love, grace, guidance, and protection.

Aloha Days! – Wednesday, May 26th & Thursday, May 27th – MINIMUM DAYS

On both Wednesday and Thursday we invite all the kids to dress in their brightest, most tropical, and Hawaiian best. We will be celebrating the conclusion of our year with special photo ops at drop off and much more.

Preschool Promotion – Wednesday, May 26th

This year has been amazing! While we did face unprecedented challenges, it has been a truly fantastic year spent together at the preschool. It is a blessing to watch the children grow up and we are excited to celebrate those students who will be moving on to the next phase of school whether that is here at PCS or beyond.  This year, we will be hosting a drive through promotion ceremony. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for your invitation with all the details.

Preschool Closed – Friday, May 28th through Friday, June 4th

First Day of Fun in the Sun Summer Camp – Monday, June 7th

Our first session of Fun in the Sun: Sea Sand, and Me! will kick off Monday, June 7th. Summers at the preschool are chock-full of good times and new adventures, we can hardly wait to get started.

Summer Camp Registration

Will you be joining the “Fun in the Sun” summer camp this year? If so, be sure to turn in your summer camp registration forms ASAP. Spaces are filling up fast and we only have a few left. Summer camp is FIRST COME FIRST SERVE so don’t miss out on your chance to be a part of the fun at the preschool this summer.

Just a friendly reminder of our Preschool Parking Lot Rules/Requests

  1. Please drive with care keeping an eye on speed and kiddos in the lot.
  2. Children should be directed to stay on the sidewalk during pick-up and drop-off except when accessing their vehicles. Little people are very hard to spot between cars.
  3. Due to limited spaces in our lot, quick drop-offs and pick-ups are ideal.

Thanks for helping us keep our little ones safe, healthy, and happy.
