🐳 Under The Sea 🐬

We had a whale of a time in Room 2! The children explored under the sea through art, literacy and song. Through media, we saw the book “Rainbow Fish” come to life; then, through art, we created our own.

We also read and heard the CD story of “There’s a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea.” The book illustrates the food chain in the ocean and sequencing in a very catching way!

The children got very wet this week through our waterplay activities. On Tuesday, we had wading pools and a sprinkler. On Friday, Pump  and Splash brought their fantastic pumps and water barrels. But I think their favorite game was “Get the Teachers Wet”!

Wednesday we learned about how God Calms. This week’s chapel was presented by Room 5 teachers. The children look forward to dancing and seeing “Snappy” the crab.
We had a fun field trip to the Monrovia library for a storytime and fun in the park. We got to also enjoy some yummy Yogurtland frozen yogurt. See previous post.

We ended the week with an under the sea pizza party. I can’t believe we only have one more week in our summer program. Time flies when you’re having fun! Can’t wait to see what adventures we will have next week before we sail away for vacation!

Story time at the Monrovia Library

Today Room 2 and Room 3 took a fun filled trip to the Monrovia Library for a special storytime. We got to sing lots of songs and read fun books like Bad Dog Max! and Stretch. We also got to dance and play with bubbles!

After all our great stories we went to the playground right next to the library and had a great time with all of the play structures.

Climbing is so much fun!

After we played for awhile we sat down and had a wonderful picnic lunch and when we were finished with our food we all got to have frozen yogurt from Yogurtland!

We finished up our delicious frozen treat and then played in the park a little more.  We had foot races and played lots of little games in the park with Room 2 and Room 3 friends.

We had a great time and we want to thank all the wonderful parents for chaperoning our field trip! We couldn’t do it without you!

Rrrroaring Good Times in RM 2

This week the children in Room 2 had some wild adventures! Monday we started out with a fun cooking activity (see previous post). Tuesday, the children gathered to play around a watering hole (swimming pools).

Wednesday’s chapel was about Jesus’ baptism and Mr. Timmy taught the children how to jump up on a surf board. Throughout the week the children enjoyed different safari themed activities.

Thursday was “Movie Day” and the children enjoyed popcorn and Disney’s The Jungle Book.

Friday we got to see exotic animals!!!

The children were so brave! We ended our week with a pizza party. It was a WILD week!

Derby Days

This week we have had an exciting time with Derby Days! Each day had a different event and each one was full of fun.

On Tuesday we had Snow Cones right before we did water play! The Snow Cones were perfect on such a warm day.

After Snow Cones we did water play and everyone was soaking wet!

On Wednesday we went to chapel and got reacquainted with our pal Snappy! Room 4 taught us all about Baby Moses and how God helps us when we need him.

On Thursday we dressed up like Cowboys and Cowgirls and had lot of fun with waterplay on our own yard! We even got to put on temporary tattoos. We watched a movie about trains and Cowboys and had lots of popcorn!

Friday came and with it came a trip to the Big Field yet again but this time instead of water we got to play with animals! We got to pet ducks, rabbits, chickens, a goat and an alpaca!

Derby Days went racing by! It was a blast and we look forward to our next week and all the fun it brings.

Fiesta Week in Room 2!

Our summer program is off to a great start with “Fiesta” week! The children have been enjoying songs in Spanish, Alabare, and Spanish finger plays by Jose-Luis Orozco. They made salsa and on Thursday they got to hit a piñata! We ended the week with Mr. Lucas playing his marimba for us. Even though it was a gloomy week we still squeezed in some water fun!

Room 2 has Sprung into Spring

April has brought some fun activities for Room 2. From field trips to Descanso Gardens, Robot making, and week of the young child, we have enjoyed it all!

For the Week of the Young Child, the children and teachers got to participate in pajama day, crazy hat day, mismatch day, color day (orange for Rm , and fruit day!

The children used boxes to create their own robot costume. They first made blueprint designs of what they wanted the robot to look like.

They then voted on the colors they wanted to paint the boxes…

and then added the small details.

After it dried, it was wearable.

The children also enjoyed the rock star dress up in our outdoor environment.

Descanso Gardens

The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground – trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. Genesis 2:9

For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations. Isaiah 61:11

The children enjoyed seeing all of God’s wonder in full bloom during a field trip  to Descanso Garden. They enjoyed the rose garden and the children’s maze.

There were many water features for the children to explore. Fountains, ponds, a lake and a waterfall. They enjoyed watching the animals that live in the ponds: frogs, turtles, ducks and fish.

Thank you to all the parent who volunteered to be drivers and chaperones. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Fruit Friday at the Preschool!

Friday was the culmination of the “Week of the Young Child” here at the Preschool. It’s a very special week wherein all the staff and students celebrate the spirit of childhood by donning silly outfits and exploring fun themes. On Fruit Friday we appreciate the fruits of God’s beautiful Earth! Each room celebrates in their own way but we all get to partake in at least one common activity- eating lots of fruit! It’s truly a delicious and nutritious day.

Room 2 made a delectable berry shortcake!

Room 3 created a very healthy fruit salad!

And Room 5 dissected each fruit on its own and tasted the rainbow!

We all want to thank the parents who participated and contributed so graciously to this very special week at school. Everyone benefits when we all embrace our inner child from time to time!

“Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” -Mark 10:15 (NIV)
