We’ve been having a wonderful time celebrating Valentine’s Day in Room 3. We’ve made treat bags, decorated hearts of all sizes, learned songs about love such as “Skidamarink” and “G.O.D. is L.O.V.E,” read several Valentines themed books, shared about who we love, and today we made mini heart shaped French toast with strawberry sauce. The kids had a great time punching out the hearts from the bread, while snacking on the pieces that we weren’t using, plus creating the egg, vanilla, and cinnamon custard to dip the bread in. We would like to give a special thanks to Ms. Lucia, Jacinta’s mom, for helping us out and being our master chef/cook. The project was enjoyably scrumptious.

Loving Our Yard and Recyclable Fun
The Outdoor Classroom has been a blast for Room 3. Our kids love being outside and engaging in all the creative learning opportunities that Team 6 provides. One of the areas drawing our focus is the Constructive Recyclabels area. We are having an awesome time stacking and using our imaginations to build everything from towers to fire trucks. Bruce and Samuel are so proud of their creative fire truck that we thought we’d share it!
“Hurry, hurry to the fire. Hurry, hurry drive the fire truck,” they both sang.
Instant Fun with Insta Snow – Rm 3
As it is winter, we have been discussing cold weather in Room 3 and all that comes with it. For us here in Southern California, that mostly translates to crisp days and maybe some rainy ones. During the holidays, however, many of our friends enjoyed going to the snow as well. While it’s hard to come by the real stuff here in Pasadena, that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun with a close facsimile. Thus, Insta Snow! This super hydro absorbent material has a unique look/texture, plus is very soft and cool to the touch. Our friends have been having a fantastic time scooping, squeezing and playing with our Insta Snow and polar people/animals. If you happen to be in our room, you should check out all the fun and learning that is taking place at our science table.
Let’s Play Hockey…Preschool Style!
Jumping into Parachute Fun
It’s our last day on the “Big Field” before our Christmas Break so we’re going out with a bang or more accurately a parachute. The Room 3 kids love our “Big Field” days and all the myriad of activities we can do there. We’ve had wonderful times playing “Duck, Duck Goose,” having races, chasing bubbles, balls, paper airplanes and each other but today was especially exciting. The kids got a chance to use our enormous parachute and they loved shaking it as well as going underneath and on top of it. We can’t wait until next year when we get to go back and use it again!
Oh Christmas Tree
What would Christmas be without all of the traditions we get to enjoy each season? From Christmas carols that celebrate the birth of Christ to sparkling Christmas lights, each tradition brings its own special meaning. The children in Room 3 have loved creating memories with our traditional holiday projects like ornament making, Christmas chains, and painting/glitter bombing construction paper lightbulbs but one of our favorite Christmas art projects, by far, was creating our very own Christmas trees.

A Musical Visit
The preschoolers enjoyed a visit from PCS orchestral students. The 5th grade students played a selection of songs and then demonstrated each instrument by explaining the various parts of each instrument and playing a few individual notes. The preschoolers were eager to say which instrument they liked best. One little friend danced through the whole show…a musician in the making!

STEM Learning Through Sensory Bins
Children in Room 3 spent countless minutes investigating the new multi-level sensory experience in the Outdoor Classroom during yard time today. Multiple children busily went back and forth, carrying cups and bowls filled with corn kernels over to the gutter ‘slides’. The corn rolled down the gutters, got pushed into the slot in the box, then fell to the next gutter to make its way down the line. Kids delighted as they prodded, pushed, scooped, and poured the corn. All of these activities create stronger connections in science as they learn measurement, gravity, engineering, and more.
