Preschool Fire Drill

Practicing staying safe is an important part of our preschool curriculum. This includes periodic fire/earthquake drills. On Thursday, March 11 the entire preschool took part in a fire drill. Everyone exited the preschool to muster up in the preschool parking lot for a quick headcount. The children did a fantastic job listening to teachers and we had an incredibly smooth drill. Great work everyone!

BLACK HISTORY FOR THE YOUNG

Black history Month is an annual observance for the remembrance of significant people and events in African American history.

With our young kids we decided to introduce them to Garret Morgan by introducing the traffic sign. Red means “STOP,” “GREEN,” “YELLOW,” very, very slow. We introduced the song “Tweekle, tweenkle traffic light.

We shared the history of how Garett Morgan worked very hard as a handyman at a young age. He continued his education and became very prosperous as a sewing machine repairman with his own clothing manufacturing business.

Then we read them a little introduction about Garret Morgan’s inventions. He invented the traffic lights as he saw too many accidents happening. He also invented the gas mask and was known for perfecting the sewing machines belt. By coincidence, while oiling the sewing machine, he discovered that the oil can also make his hair soft.

HEALTHY TEETH

We read books about teeth and dental health. We made a mouth model with construction paper and used marshmallows and glued on some teeth. We talked about food that makes the teeth strong and how water is good for the body and keeps you hydrated.

On the last week of February we started brushing our teeth in our class. We have three children at a time come into the bathroom and with the teacher’s assistance they are learning to identify their cup, toothbrush, cover and paste. The teacher will squeeze a pea size toothpaste and instruct them to brush teeth up and down, top teeth and bottom teeth and their tongue. We rinse, spit, rinse again and wipe face and dry our toothbrush, then they put cover on the toothbrush and place back into the cup.

LUNAR NEW YEAR PRESCHOOL STYLE

In class we made red and gold dragons with construction paper, with this activity we learn about sequence. We also made red and golden fans.

We read fun books and learn Mandarin words and numbers one to ten from Ms. Melissa

In class we Cooked fried rice it was fun experience, all the children got to put something in the wok and they heard the sizzling sound. “It was tasteful!” Heidi and Kevin (Evelyn’s mom and dad) graciously shared a book “Bringing In the New Year,” dumplings and egg roll as well to have for snack in the class.

CELEBRATING GOD’S LOVE

Reading the Bible story “Jesus loves the little children (Matthew 18:1-14) captured the children’s attention. Specially where Jesus said “Let the children come to me and don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to persons like them.” We are very happy to see how fast our kids learn the song “Jesus Love Me,” along with hand motions for our song.

Our Valentines Day Celebration was adorable. All the children got a chance to distribute their valentine cards, decorate our sugar cookies and enjoy fresh fruit as a morning snack

Chapel – February 2021

February Chapel is always a great time to talk about love and specifically, God’s love.

For this chapel we read 1 John 4:7-13, which discusses how much God loves us and the role we play in sharing God’s love with the world.

Our focus song was G.O.D. is L.O.V.E. based on 1 John 4:8 & 16 and we learned how to spell it out using American sign language.

We also enjoyed reading the book Because God Loves Me! Below you will find the link to Mr. Tim’s YouTube version of the story.

We concluded chapel by brainstorming how we can show love at the preschool. The most popular answers across all the classrooms were…share, give hugs, say “hi”, and give cards.

We are so grateful for the love of God and the ability to share that love with the world.
