Seaweed Exploration

This week we used our senses to explore seaweed. We also compare and contrast two types of seaweed (seaweed from the beach and store bought seaweed).

Welcome to our 1A Space Classroom!

Hello amazing parents! Since you are unable to enter the classroom and see all the amazing work your child does, we decided to do a virtual classroom tour just for you. Below is a description of each area and activity shown in the video.

We hope you enjoy the virtual tour! 🙂

Window—Bible verse Psalm 147:4 was displayed on the window: “He determines the number of stars and calls them each by name.” Each student received one star and wrote their name on it. Great job, friends!
Cubby Area—Name Rockets are displayed on the wall. For this activity, they counted the number of letters in their name, practiced cutting along the lines, and used their fine motor skills to glue and assemble their rockets. They identified shapes, such as squares and triangles. Our students also received new star cubby name labels. Yay!
Trellis—Each student painted and used their fine motor skills to glue different color ribbons on their shooting stars. They also identified the shape of a star. Also hanging on the trellis are our styrofoam planets. Together we painted the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Earth and Jupiter. Room 1B students painted the remaining planets.
Writing Center—As mentioned in our previous Butterfly Blog, we observed and documented the different stages of our live caterpillars. Once we released our butterflies, we recalled the different stages and created sculptures for each stage in the Butterfly Life Cycle.
Library—To provide a more cozy and inviting area, we added a canopy with glow-in-the-dark stars. Hanging around the canopy are rocket ships our students created with different materials. We also added a background to the walls to give it a more “Spacey” surrounding. We can’t forget the awesome space books they can read in their new library area.
Block Area—We provided a space background with pictures of astronauts, rockets and rovers to inspire them when they build with blocks and other construction materials (Big Builders and connectors).
Dramatic Play Area—5…4…3…2…1… Blast off! In this area they can dress up as astronauts and play in a NASA rocket ship! The planets around the walls were painted by our students.
Class Bulletin Board—For a week we focused on a 3-part space writing project. For the first part, we asked each student “If you went to space what would you do? What would you see?” After telling us their answers, we wrote it with a highlighter and they traced over it. For the second part, they drew a picture that reflected their answers. For the third part, they colored their very own astronaut suit and added a picture of their faces to their suits. Our future astronauts look adorable!
Pick-up/Drop-off Door—“Blast into Room 1!” Displayed on the door are spaceships driven by each student! For this activity, they worked on coloring inside the lines and cutting along the lines. Afterwards a picture of their faces was added to their individual ships. So adorable!
Light Table—Two weeks ago, my friends worked on extending patterns. This week they are working on creating their own patterns with two or three elements.

My friends worked so hard on each of their space activities. Let me tell you, they did an AMAZING job! We’re so proud of them and all their hard work. High five, friends! ♥️

Chapel – April 2021

This April’s chapel focused on the “Good News” of Christ resurrections. While Easter is a few weeks behind us, we aspire to celebrate Jesus’ love, power, and promise everyday.

We also learned the words and Mr. Tim’s hand motions to Lord I Lift Your Name On High. Below you will find a YouTube link to a fun version of the song and a preschool favorite.

We revisited the details of the Easter Story by reading from our Rhyme Bible. It was a great way to recall everything that happened on that incredible day. He is risen!

Rocket Experiment in Room 1A

Hello wonderful Room 1A families! We wanted to share a snippet of our rocket experiment with you. 🚀 We used a simplified version of the Scientific Method for our experiment. The kiddos were able to make predictions from their observations. They created a hypothesis and we eventually put those predictions to the test. After that, they recorded their results and we were able to discuss what went right or wrong with our experiment. Our students are all so intuitive and observant. They love asking questions and love having their questions answered. We hope you enjoy this post as much as we did. We’ve attached a few videos to help showcase how excellent our little scientists are.

Before we conducted our rocket experiment, Mr. Sam recapped on the discussions they had at the beginning of the week.

Our Room 1B March Madness

We had so much fun celebrating St Patrick’s Day in class. From yummy green snacks, to video story time, to an office field trip to make our hats with Ms. Joy. This week we also learned about blue prints and designed a leprechaun trap. We then built it and waited patiently to see the results of our hard work. Check it out.

Preschool Fire Drill

Practicing staying safe is an important part of our preschool curriculum. This includes periodic fire/earthquake drills. On Thursday, March 11 the entire preschool took part in a fire drill. Everyone exited the preschool to muster up in the preschool parking lot for a quick headcount. The children did a fantastic job listening to teachers and we had an incredibly smooth drill. Great work everyone!

Room 1A Celebrating Valentine’s Day with Heart Waffles

Our Valentine’s Day parties were a success! Our kiddos all enjoyed the delicious treats you all contributed with. Nothing puts a smile on a kid’s face like 2 heart shaped waffles, mixed berries, syrup and powdered sugar. This Valentine’s party was not just about having some sweets and exchanging gifts. We focused on the importance of showing kindness towards others and praying for one another – lots of meaningful discussions this week.
