The children in Room 3 had an awesome time making a not-so-spicy dish. What is it you ask? It’s none other than Pico De Gallo! Ingredients were chopped, diced, sliced, squeezed, measured and poured. Some of the children even had a chance to taste limes! The children unleashed their inner Iron Chef and created a dish that appealed to the palates of children and teachers alike.

It’s Spring Time!
Our Very Own Little Scientists!
It’s a wonder what you can do with some recyclable water bottles, oil, food coloring, water and Alka-Seltzer. The children from Room 3 had an opportunity to satisfy their curiosity by finding out what happens when you add alka-seltzer to a bottle filled with liquids and coloring. Expectations ranged from, “It’s going to explode!” to “Nothing is going to happen.” Despite the differences in their hypotheses, one thing was certain, they all loved the result!
P.S. If you want to create the bubbly/lava lamp effect, all you have to do is add another tablet of alka-seltzer!
Pigs in a Blanket! Oink oink!
Marble Painting
In Room 3 we enjoy painting with different objects.
Most recently, we have been painting with marbles. The children roll 3 marbles back and forth in a box with a piece of paper and drops of different colors of paints. This action creates lines in different directions. As they shake the box back and forth they call it, “Playing A Game”.
Fruit Friday at the Preschool!
Friday was the culmination of the “Week of the Young Child” here at the Preschool. It’s a very special week wherein all the staff and students celebrate the spirit of childhood by donning silly outfits and exploring fun themes. On Fruit Friday we appreciate the fruits of God’s beautiful Earth! Each room celebrates in their own way but we all get to partake in at least one common activity- eating lots of fruit! It’s truly a delicious and nutritious day.
Room 2 made a delectable berry shortcake!
Room 3 created a very healthy fruit salad!
And Room 5 dissected each fruit on its own and tasted the rainbow!
We all want to thank the parents who participated and contributed so graciously to this very special week at school. Everyone benefits when we all embrace our inner child from time to time!
“Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” -Mark 10:15 (NIV)
Fun with Gak!!!
The children had an amazing time exploring their senses and honing their motor skills with Gak. This gooey substance is beloved by many children and Room 3 had an awesome time playing with it. Their imaginations inspired the creation of many things! Also, in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, the children had access to shamrock cookie cutters which allowed them to add a St. Patty’s Day twist to their Gak fun.
Ahhhh a it’s a slug!!!

A gooey heart with room to spare for a shamrock!

WHAT’S THAT ON YOUR HAND??
-Gasp- That’s a lot of Gak…
All in all, the children had a blast with the Gak. In the near future, they will be able to incorporate other objects into their Gak play. Here’s a hint, the Gak might not be rock solid, but the objects will be!
Room 3 Serenades the Office
Room 3 serenaded the office today with some beautiful praise and worship music! Enjoy listening to our little angels…
All Aboard!!
We have been having a wonderful time in Room 3 studying transportation with an emphasis on trains. From reading books about trains, playing with Thomas and other train toys, to watching train clips on YouTube, we have been learning so much. As has become our tradition in Room 3, we added to our train knowledge and experiences by taking a ride on the Gold Line. It was a fantastic trip that included our local Sierra Madre Train Station, the beautiful Los Angeles Union Station, and culminated with a stop at Olivera Street, and the oldest house in LA. The kids were enthralled by the entire trip from the first ticket purchase to the last sound of the train’s warning bells on the station platform. We want to acknowledge and give a special thank you to all the parents who came along and made this trip possible, we couldn’t have done it without you.
To the Train!

At the beautiful Union Station Los Angeles.
Heading over to Olvera Street and the Avila Adobe.

Lunch and heading back home.

It truly was a marvelous adventure and we can’t wait to see what we’ll do next!
Valentine’s Day Festivities in Room 3
We’ve been having a wonderful time celebrating Valentine’s Day in Room 3. We’ve made treat bags, decorated hearts of all sizes, learned songs about love such as “Skidamarink” and “G.O.D. is L.O.V.E,” read several Valentines themed books, shared about who we love, and today we made mini heart shaped French toast with strawberry sauce. The kids had a great time punching out the hearts from the bread, while snacking on the pieces that we weren’t using, plus creating the egg, vanilla, and cinnamon custard to dip the bread in. We would like to give a special thanks to Ms. Lucia, Jacinta’s mom, for helping us out and being our master chef/cook. The project was enjoyably scrumptious.
