Site Update: October 2020

As many of you are aware, we have been dealing with an ongoing bug issue here at the preschool. The mosquito population has grown rapidly over the last few years in Southern California and schools, business, and home owners are all trying to mitigate the impact of these pesky pests. The preschool/school has regular monthly visits from a pest management company that sprays the exterior of our campus with a bio and student friendly bug deterrent. This year, however, we have found that the situation has worsened and after a visit from Vector Control, the campus has decided to take extra measures. This Friday, October 23rd, after the campus closes for the day, we will be spraying a new bug spray around the exterior of our campus. Below you will find the specifics of the compound that our Environmental Services team has elected to use.

We take the safety of our students, families, and staff very seriously and this includes both their exposure to bugs as well as the means to eliminate them. We are grateful for our Environmental Services team and the diligence that they pursue their responsibilities with.

Jackson Pollock-ish Preschool Art

Jackson Pollock was an American painter and a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. He was well known for his unique style of drip painting. The children experienced the process of drip painting like Pollock. Painting standing up and splashing paint. The approach was a little different because they used a string tied to a stick that was dipped in the paint which allowed the paint to drip off onto the paper with more control, yet the outcome was the same. Enjoy! -Mrs. Monica; Preschool Art Teacher

The Great Shakeout!

The Great California ShakeOut - Resources: Web Banners

Today the preschool took part in the Great California Shakeout. Schools, businesses, and companies across the state participate each year in practicing what to do in case of an earthquake. At the preschool we call our “duck and cover” procedure, “Bunnies in the Hole.” All the classes had a fantastic time running through the whole process from “duck and cover” to mustering all the way to the big field on the main campus. They kids did a great job staying safe and listening to their teachers!

Chapel – October 2020

We had our first Preschool Chapel of the school year and we’re so excited! It was a wonderful time spent together singing, worshiping, sharing Bible stories, and enjoying the beautiful day that the Lord has made.

Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16
Song: You Are the Light of the World by Steve Green, Hide ’em in Your Heart Vol. 1

Block Area

Our program is a child center environment based on our understanding of how young children learn. Our curriculum centers on the “whole child” approach and learning through play.

You might ask yourself what is my child learning when she/he is playing with blocks.

Science and math: they discover that one long block is equal to two short blocks ( proportions, fractions). Match block shapes to shelf label (spatial sense). Make patterns ( square, square, triangle, triangle and so on.

Language and literacy: Learn vocabulary; shapes (cylinder, arch) comparison (taller, heavier), talk about structure before, during and after.

Social and emotional: rebuild after a block tower falls (self confidence, perseverance), put away blocks when finished building (self regulation, sense of community).

September in Room 2

September has been a blast! We’ve been hard at work in Room 2. Check out some highlights from our month together.

In small groups, we’ve done fun things like drawing our family portraits, shape sorting, making “shape soup,” creating shape sun catchers, apple sorting to recognize the letters Aa and Bb, dot counting, color mixing with play dough and more!

On Wednesdays, we walk over to the elementary school where we get to enjoy “The Big Field.” We get our bodies moving with gross motor activities that build coordination and cooperative skills.

As we play, we’re building friendships, gaining knowledge about the world around us, using fun materials that help shape us into thinkers, artists, engineers, storytellers, caring family members and so much more!

Most importantly, we’re learning God’s word! We love singing our Bible memory verse songs. Having God’s word in our heart is the most important and most effective way to grow socially and emotionally. It’s the roadmap we use to navigate how we interact with God and with others. We highly recommend singing along at home to: Steve Green’s Hide ‘Em in your Heart Vol. 1 and 2https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqe4xkD6FVk&list=PLnBE6CMNMLh01KgWRc9lseCt-34_AnlQc

We’re so happy to see our friends growing together. As we head into a new season, we’re excited for all the fall fun ahead!

HAPPY 20th BIRTHDAY PASADENA CHRISTIAN PRE-SCHOOL

How many children have been in our care since the beginning of our grand opening? Too many to count. 🥰Our first students are either entering college or entering a promising career. We celebrate and thank all the parents and spiritual leaders who helped guide their future and Plant a strong Christian seed.

On this 2020 school year many things are challenging us CovinaVirus, fires and earthquakes but with God’s will and grace we are standing strong. State regulation allowed us to open our doors with half of our classroom ratio and slowly we will be getting back to our full capacity. The children who are joining us are happy to be here exploring, learning our classroom routine, getting to know each other and learning about personal space 🙂. They are two, even as adults we are still learning about personal space.😀
