Wayne Thiebaud; Cake Paintings
The wonderful American artist Thiebaud was widely known for his colorful works depicting commonplace objects, pies, paint cans, ice cream cones, pastries, cakes and hot dogs. He was associated with the pop art movement because of his interest in objects of mass culture. I shared with the students his work and I even read them a book filled with his artwork. We also talked about “pastel colors”, and how to mix them. They then so eagerly got busy working on their beautiful cake/pastry painting. Enjoy! -Mrs Monica

Valentine’s Day Party
Hello!
Thank you all for helping us celebrate Valentine’s Day by bringing yummy fruit, teddy grams, cheese, milk and decorations! Our parties were a great success! Each child that brought a valentines to share passed theirs out to their friends. We practiced showing gratitude by saying “Thank you!” to each friend. Check out the pictures below!

LUNAR NEW YEAR
Pasadena Christian Preschool is blessed to be rich in culture. January 26, 2020 was the beginning of the Lunar New Year. In celebration of the new year our classroom made dumplings, practiced using chopsticks, made lanterns, and sang Chinese songs. Through first hand experience, the children got to learn about different aspects and traditions that some families do prior to Lunar New Year. This couldn’t be possible without our parent volunteers and donations. Thank you, parents!

Lunar New Year in Room 5
Hello from Room 5!
We have been learning about Lunar New Year in the past few weeks. We have read a book, “Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas” by Natasha Yim.

For art: We painted our very own Chinese Lanterns.

We also gave each child a small envelope with good luck money to welcome good fortune for the new year.

We then enjoyed a very yummy family style lunch from China Express. We enjoyed Fried Rice, Chicken Chow Mein, Beef with Broccoli, Teriyaki Chicken (fried) and Egg Drop Soup.
Happy Lunar New Year from Room 5!
Fun little moments
I love when a student/teacher or teacher/teacher dress the same unintentionally. Today I found myself looking at Susanna we both paused then she cries out “Ms. Monica we are twins today”, with such excitement in her voice. We both laughed. Ms. Joyce helped us capture this fun little moment. We have many fun little moments like these everyday. This is what makes our job so enjoyable. –

Fun in Room 5
“GOOD BYE 2019, WELCOME 2020”
It is hard to believe that we are half way through the school year. December was a busy and short month for us . We had fun decorating our room with Christmas decorations, making fun art to post on our bulletin boards and making special gifts for parents to take home. In between these fun activities we also made time to enjoy a cup of hot coco and cookies while decorating our classroom Christmas tree.
It was such a blessing to finish the year with Grandparents day and Happy Birthday Jesus.

New Year, New Fun!
Happy New Year! We’re so happy to be back together in younger pod– exploring our winter themed activities. Check out some fun from our first week back!
For art last week, we painted with shades of blue to create snowman masterpieces!

Our snowflake counting game was a hit!

Check out how we scoop, pour, fill and dump salt at our winter sensory table!

It’s the question everyone is asking, Do you wanna build a snowman? In our dramatic play area, we built snow people! We counted the “snowboxes” and pointed out the different details, shapes and colors used for the parts of the snow people! We had a blast seeing how tall we could build it, and of course, knocking it down!

One of our gross motor activities is a snowman toss! Check out our friends working together to collect all the snowmen (styrofoam balls with snowmen faces) and toss them into the white basket!

Our friends are getting strong spiritually, socially, emotionally, cognitively and PHYSICALLY! On Thursday, our friends worked together to roll, flip, carry and move the BIG tires in our outdoor environment. Check out this teamwork!
