Special Visitor Today!

Today we had the extreme privilege of a visit from B.G. Hennessy, the current author of the Corduroy books, as well as over 35 other children’s titles. She is the proud grandmother of two of our own preschool kiddos who were extremely proud to share her with us. Each classroom was blessed with an individual presentation by Mrs. Hennessy. The kids from Room 5 to 1 sat in rapt attention as she shared her fantastic and whimsical stories with us. We can’t thank her enough for her visit and sincerely hope she comes back soon.

Flu & Illness Prevention

Flu and cold season is officially upon us and unfortunately, and at times, it seems the only things little children are willing to share are germs!

Please click here to visit the CDC’s “ACTION STEPS” for fighting the flu!

At preschool, we are taking every measure possible to prevent the spread of germs at school such as disinfecting surfaces and toys with an EPA approved, school-friendly disinfectant, washing hands regularly, and as required by law, checking students daily for signs of sickness. Students who exhibit symptoms will be sent home to recover.

We appreciate every parent who has been proactive in checking their child(ren) daily for signs of sickness before coming to school. Please remember to keep your child home if they are exhibiting any symptoms of sickness, including lethargy, fever, vomiting, coughing, sneezing, excessive crankiness, disrupted sleep patterns, etc.

If your child does get sick, please remember that there is a mandatory 24 hour waiting period after the final symptoms of fever, vomiting, or diarrhea without the aid of medication.

Finally, if your child does exhibit signs of the flu, it is highly encouraged to see a doctor right away as your child may be eligible for an anti-viral that will shorten the duration of the sickness.

Happy Birthday Jesus Party

What a blessing it is to work with these little ones each day! It is also a joy to be able to share the love of Christ with them and to sing about His birth this Christmas season! Thank you, parents, for sharing them with us!

Our annual Happy Birthday Jesus Party was a huge success! Each and every one of our Littles did such a spectacular job performing on stage!! Games, crafts, pizza and cupcakes were a special treat for a job well done!

Thank you to all the teachers who made this show possible and to our parent volunteers who helped make this event a success!!

Pre-k 1 & 2 sang a medley of songs. This is their performance at Grandparents’ Day.

Room 3 (younger 3s) recreated the manger scene by singing “Oh What a Special Night”.

Rooms 4 & 5 (2 year olds) sang a peppy version of This Little Light of Mine and One Little Finger.

Great Shake Out Earthquake Drill

PCS participated in the Great California Shake Out Earthquake Drill again this year and it was another successful event! After 2 minutes of simulating the duck and cover position (we call it Bunny in the Hole), we headed up to the big field to “safety”. While the preschoolers enjoyed a snack and songs, the elementary students and staff simulated everything from broken bones to a pretend fire in the science lab. A few teachers were “trapped” in classrooms and several people were taken to “triage” for assessment. While we pray we never need to use these skills, it is affirming to know we are well prepared in the event of an emergency!

Beary Blessed Bear Day

A couple weeks ago we had a beary special, beary exciting day! Bear Day!! Our kiddos had been studying all about Corduroy and his many adventures. We retold his story, learned how to located the beginning, middle, and end of a story, and painted his buttons. We also read numerous books about bears. The students got so into Bear facts we brainstormed how to extend our learning. And what do you know that brainstorming led to the organization of our beary amazing Bear day. We ate Teddy Grahams for snack. We brought bears from home to love on all day. We made Corduroy button picture frames. We sat for photos with our special Bear friends. We constructed Bear hats. We created Bear dens from cardboard packing material. Whew! We were beary exhausted!! Take a look at all our bear-tastic adventures…

Room 1 Fun!

Well, we’re off and running! We have been so busy getting to know each other, our classroom agenda, and all our pre-k responsibilities. Your little blessings are learning letters, writing our names, counting and writing our numbers, and learning patience (this is a tough one!😉). Each Wednesday we get to walk to the “big school” to have learning fun on the field and attend chapel with the big kids! Our small groups are off to a terrific start as we explore more challenging, focused science, math, language & literacy, writing, journaling, and working independently. We have also studied about Creation,  Adam & Eve, Noah, The Tower of Babel, Abraham, Joseph, and Moses! Phew! We have been busy! Here’s a look at all our fun…

Fired Up for Fun!

To capstone our exploration of community helpers, Room 1 visited Los Angeles Fire Station 82 this past week. As we drove up to the station, ALL three emergency vehicles pulled out of the garage, sirens blaring! Our little ones were captivated while our adults were a little nervous that our tour would be canceled. But OH YEAH, that was just God’s favor…AN EXCITING look at a REAL response to a call. The firefighters returned within a few short minutes, skillfully backed the engines into the garage and our tour began! They showed us their fire gear, equipment on the truck, their kitchen and their gym. They even let us hold and spray a firehose! Check it out!

ABC7 Visits PCS Preschool!

Click HERE to view us on ABC7!

The students in Room 1 have shown a keen interest in news casting and weather reporting over the past few weeks, so the teachers set up an ABC7 themed news room in the dramatic play center. Much to our delight, Phillip Palmer offered to come and visit!!

The students (and teachers!) were brimming with excitement this morning when Phillip Palmer and Mr. Chris, the camera man, made their appearance this morning. The students got to see the camera, hold the microphone and even go inside the truck!

After a presentation from Mr. Phillip, and a very lively Q&A from the students, the children showed Mr. Phillip their “news station” and pretended to put on their own news cast!

This story will be featured on ABC7 on Friday, February 9th between 6:00 -7:00 am.

Welcome to Room 1!

Welcome to Room 1! Our year is well underway and we are having so much fun together! Our little ones have been hard at work and play and we’re so excited to see how well they have acclimated to our classroom routine, are meeting classroom expectations of being loving toward one another, and are learning to work together as a family unit!

Check out some highlights of our day-to-day activities!

Our day begins with “Morning Meeting!” This is a fun, focused 25 minutes of learning. Engaging Bible Memory Verse songs help us learn God’s word. We select daily job helpers, review calendar, share news, and pray for our day. This is a fabulous time for us to practice taking turns, public speaking, self-regulation, counting, and one-to-one correspondence. We also build print and phonological awareness by writing words and emphasizing sounds together. What an exciting way to put to work all our pre-kindergarten/kindergarten readiness skills!

Our favorite part of the day is BIBLE time! We love to open God’s word everyday and HEAR His word so we can DO His words. His word guides us, teaches us, corrects us, and strengthens us. This year we will be reading the greatest, most exciting rescue story of all time! The Jesus Storybook Bible will take us, chronologically, through the story of creation, detail the ministry of Jesus Christ, and end with the Resurrection and arrival of the Holy Spirit (God Himself, loving and helping us everyday). Our Bible time includes, micro-dramatic visual demonstrations, skits, dramatic audio stories, interactive visual animations on the Bible App for Kids and so much more!

Our small group rotations are 10-12 minutes of fun! With four small groups, three teacher directed groups and one independent group–We explore Language/Literacy, Math/Science, Manipulatives, and Daily Writing Journals.

Play, play, play! We’re developing social, emotional, cognitive and physical skills as we engage with others and our environment.

We’re so thrilled that we get to grow together this year! We truly have no greater joy than to hear and see all our kiddos walking in the truth (3 John 1:4). We love you and are praying that your families have a wonderful school year!

Love,

Ms. Kristen, Mrs. Jen, and Mrs. Sarah (Left to Right)

Dear Room 2 Friends☺️,

We want to take a moment to say THANK YOU, from the bottom of our hearts! We have had the most incredible year, and we really believe that was due to the teamwork and family environment that we built amongst each other throughout the year! Jesus’ heart has shined so bright in our classroom, and His love has been ever so evident in everything we’ve done. It’s impossible to not see how God is on the move among this generation of tiny humans, and we are confident that He has such an amazing call for each of their lives. We pray that as they go and grow, they will remain in His love and truth for their lives.

It’s the sweetest honor for us to have been given the opportunity to walk along side each of them, in this tiny season of their lives that is preschool! It’s been our deepest joy to love them, teach them, and serve them. As we say goodbye, we leave you with this beautiful slideshow of our year together, along with our Room 1 neighbors. We hope that, like us, you’ll always remember our time together learning, growing, and  worshiping God as a family each day, for all He has done, for all He is doing, and all He will do.❤
All our deepest love,

Ms. Wendy💗, Ms. Daisy💛, and Ms. Kira💚.
