The Great Shakeout!

The Great California ShakeOut - Resources: Web Banners

Today the preschool took part in the Great California Shakeout. Schools, businesses, and companies across the state participate each year in practicing what to do in case of an earthquake. At the preschool we call our “duck and cover” procedure, “Bunnies in the Hole.” All the classes had a fantastic time running through the whole process from “duck and cover” to mustering all the way to the big field on the main campus. They kids did a great job staying safe and listening to their teachers!

Chapel – October 2020

We had our first Preschool Chapel of the school year and we’re so excited! It was a wonderful time spent together singing, worshiping, sharing Bible stories, and enjoying the beautiful day that the Lord has made.

Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16
Song: You Are the Light of the World by Steve Green, Hide ’em in Your Heart Vol. 1

September in Room 2

September has been a blast! We’ve been hard at work in Room 2. Check out some highlights from our month together.

In small groups, we’ve done fun things like drawing our family portraits, shape sorting, making “shape soup,” creating shape sun catchers, apple sorting to recognize the letters Aa and Bb, dot counting, color mixing with play dough and more!

On Wednesdays, we walk over to the elementary school where we get to enjoy “The Big Field.” We get our bodies moving with gross motor activities that build coordination and cooperative skills.

As we play, we’re building friendships, gaining knowledge about the world around us, using fun materials that help shape us into thinkers, artists, engineers, storytellers, caring family members and so much more!

Most importantly, we’re learning God’s word! We love singing our Bible memory verse songs. Having God’s word in our heart is the most important and most effective way to grow socially and emotionally. It’s the roadmap we use to navigate how we interact with God and with others. We highly recommend singing along at home to: Steve Green’s Hide ‘Em in your Heart Vol. 1 and 2https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqe4xkD6FVk&list=PLnBE6CMNMLh01KgWRc9lseCt-34_AnlQc

We’re so happy to see our friends growing together. As we head into a new season, we’re excited for all the fall fun ahead!

A Day in Room 2

We are off to a great start in Room 2! Our friends are acclimating nicely to their new classroom, getting to know some new friends and reconnecting with classmates from last year. Check out some highlights from our first couple weeks together.

At morning meeting, we pick classroom helpers, discuss the calendar, sing songs and pray together.

We read our Bible and interact with exciting props to solidify the concepts and themes in the stories.

When we play—we’re thinking, building, creating, problem-solving, socializing, developing language, using negotiation skills and exploring the world around us!

Small group time is a great opportunity for us to practice attention maintenance, following directions and learning how to engage in fun learning activities pertaining to language literacy, fine motor development, color concepts, shapes, sorting, patterning, science exploration, gross motor development and much more!

We even get to enjoy “the big field” at the elementary school! We do gross motor activities and play fun games like Red Light, Green Light and What Time is it Mr. Fox?

We’re already making huge leaps in our ability to connect print and storytelling! Check out this video of some Room 2 friends using our writing center white board to recreate some familiar stories. AMAZING!

We are looking forward to a wonderful year together!

Special Visitor Today!

Today we had the extreme privilege of a visit from B.G. Hennessy, the current author of the Corduroy books, as well as over 35 other children’s titles. She is the proud grandmother of two of our own preschool kiddos who were extremely proud to share her with us. Each classroom was blessed with an individual presentation by Mrs. Hennessy. The kids from Room 5 to 1 sat in rapt attention as she shared her fantastic and whimsical stories with us. We can’t thank her enough for her visit and sincerely hope she comes back soon.

Flu & Illness Prevention

Flu and cold season is officially upon us and unfortunately, and at times, it seems the only things little children are willing to share are germs!

Please click here to visit the CDC’s “ACTION STEPS” for fighting the flu!

At preschool, we are taking every measure possible to prevent the spread of germs at school such as disinfecting surfaces and toys with an EPA approved, school-friendly disinfectant, washing hands regularly, and as required by law, checking students daily for signs of sickness. Students who exhibit symptoms will be sent home to recover.

We appreciate every parent who has been proactive in checking their child(ren) daily for signs of sickness before coming to school. Please remember to keep your child home if they are exhibiting any symptoms of sickness, including lethargy, fever, vomiting, coughing, sneezing, excessive crankiness, disrupted sleep patterns, etc.

If your child does get sick, please remember that there is a mandatory 24 hour waiting period after the final symptoms of fever, vomiting, or diarrhea without the aid of medication.

Finally, if your child does exhibit signs of the flu, it is highly encouraged to see a doctor right away as your child may be eligible for an anti-viral that will shorten the duration of the sickness.

Happy Birthday Jesus Party

What a blessing it is to work with these little ones each day! It is also a joy to be able to share the love of Christ with them and to sing about His birth this Christmas season! Thank you, parents, for sharing them with us!

Our annual Happy Birthday Jesus Party was a huge success! Each and every one of our Littles did such a spectacular job performing on stage!! Games, crafts, pizza and cupcakes were a special treat for a job well done!

Thank you to all the teachers who made this show possible and to our parent volunteers who helped make this event a success!!

Pre-k 1 & 2 sang a medley of songs. This is their performance at Grandparents’ Day.

Room 3 (younger 3s) recreated the manger scene by singing “Oh What a Special Night”.

Rooms 4 & 5 (2 year olds) sang a peppy version of This Little Light of Mine and One Little Finger.

Great Shake Out Earthquake Drill

PCS participated in the Great California Shake Out Earthquake Drill again this year and it was another successful event! After 2 minutes of simulating the duck and cover position (we call it Bunny in the Hole), we headed up to the big field to “safety”. While the preschoolers enjoyed a snack and songs, the elementary students and staff simulated everything from broken bones to a pretend fire in the science lab. A few teachers were “trapped” in classrooms and several people were taken to “triage” for assessment. While we pray we never need to use these skills, it is affirming to know we are well prepared in the event of an emergency!

Room 2 Check-In: Fall!🍁🍂

Hi friends! Welcome back to Room 2’s blog post! We hope this finds you well and enjoying the fall season. Here in our classroom, we’ve really been enjoying all the fun activities and learning that comes with the fall season. God is so good and he’s been so faithful in our classroom.💫< b>< b>To start off, our small groups have been going wonderfully! Our friends have really been working hard at each activity, and have already shown lots of growth in their ability to focus and stay on task. Friends have been practicing their prewriting skills and have even given letters a try!📝We are SO proud of our friends for being so willing and excited to try and to not give up, even when the writing or drawing gets hard to do. We are working together as a team to continue building up our friends’ confidence to learn and take risks! One of our fun and risky activities this past week was digging into and dissecting a pumpkin!🎃It was so fun exploring a pumpkin’s insides and feeling all of the textures! Lots of friends stepped out of their comfort zone and went for it! So fun!😊We’ve also had so much fun during our outdoor times! One of our favorite activities was playing with a giant parachute! We loved seeing so many colors in the sun and Gavin our friends jump and dance. It was so beautiful!🌈
&
br>< so, today was an exciting day on our campus! We had our annual California Shake-Out! Thankfully, things went smoothly as we practiced our drills to prepare us for an earthquake. Our friends did so well! We are so excited for what’s ahead in the coming weeks leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday! We know God is present and continues to lead us with grace and love as our friends grow and learn in their classroom. It’s been such a gift to watch them take the lead and grow more confident and more able. The last couple of weeks, we’ve been talking about and memorizing Psalm 91:1. It’s so important to us that our friends really internalize God’s word and understand it to the best of their ability. We know that true identity of self is found in God’s word, so we want to continue to encourage growth in our classroom in this area as well. It’s pretty amazing, and we know that equipping them in this is a tool that they will have for the rest of their lives. We encourage you at home to join us in putting this to practice with us!
📖☺️ Until next time, everyone! Blessings and we’ll see you around!❤️

In His love,

Miss Wendy and the Room 2 Team.🍎

P.S. Enjoy the extras!📷🤗
