Today we had a very green day! We decided to combine St. Patrick’s day with Green Eggs and Ham. From the first yard time to the end of the day we were all about green.
We also used green and gold for our decorations because of St. Patrick’s Day and because they are our colors for March.
Today was a day filled with dancing and laughing and a lot of fun.
And we get to do it all again tomorrow!
Practicing staying safe is an important part of our preschool curriculum. This includes periodic fire/earthquake drills. On Thursday, March 11 the entire preschool took part in a fire drill. Everyone exited the preschool to muster up in the preschool parking lot for a quick headcount. The children did a fantastic job listening to teachers and we had an incredibly smooth drill. Great work everyone!
We have had some warm and sunny days recently and we took full advantage of them. Playing comes so naturally to us and we do it every day!
Today has been such a wet day and we haven’t gone outside much but it’s fun to look back on last week when we did!
Alma Thomas was an artist and teacher who lived and worked in Washington D.C., for 38 years she worked as an art teacher in the public schools and built an outstanding art program which integrated all types of learners. Her work was loved by President Obama that he had her piece “Resurrection” purchased and had it displayed in the dinning room at the White House. The children loved seeing samples of her work, learning about her life and fascinated by her use of color. Some of the children felt she used rainbow colors in her paintings. For the past two weeks, our friends in Room 2 have been exploring dinosaurs! We got out our paleontologist brushes to dust off fossils in our sensory bin, got creative with dinosaur art, built Jurassic habitats in the block area and so much more!
As a way to celebrate all the fun things we’ve learned we had a Dino Day! What is Dino Day… you ask? We dressed dinosaur festive, made dinosaur shaped pancakes, enjoyed a special presentation of PBS’ Dinosaur Train and made volcanos ERUPT! Our celebration was DINO-mite!

Room 3 has been very interested in dinosaurs recently: being them, playing with them and discovering them.
We have been playing with dinosaurs and pretending to be them for a couple of weeks and we are learning things along the way.

Dr. Seuss’ Birthday – Tuesday, March 2nd
Dr. Seuss wrote more than 46 children’s books and stories that have shaped and continue to impact the world of early childhood literature. We will be celebrating him at preschool by reading a few of his books this year. Thank you Dr. Seuss for firing our imaginations, our love of rhyme, and introducing us to the worlds inside of books.

St. Patrick’s Day – Wednesday, March 17th
With a touch of the blarney, we will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this year with leprechauns, shamrocks, and so much more. The story of St. Patrick is also a wonderful time to talk about God’s commandment for us to spread the gospel with the world.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Black history Month is an annual observance for the remembrance of significant people and events in African American history.
With our young kids we decided to introduce them to Garret Morgan by introducing the traffic sign. Red means “STOP,” “GREEN,” “YELLOW,” very, very slow. We introduced the song “Tweekle, tweenkle traffic light.
We shared the history of how Garett Morgan worked very hard as a handyman at a young age. He continued his education and became very prosperous as a sewing machine repairman with his own clothing manufacturing business.
Then we read them a little introduction about Garret Morgan’s inventions. He invented the traffic lights as he saw too many accidents happening. He also invented the gas mask and was known for perfecting the sewing machines belt. By coincidence, while oiling the sewing machine, he discovered that the oil can also make his hair soft.
We read books about teeth and dental health. We made a mouth model with construction paper and used marshmallows and glued on some teeth. We talked about food that makes the teeth strong and how water is good for the body and keeps you hydrated.
