Stone Soup

“Bring what you got, put it in the pot; we’re making stone soup.” The children have been listening to the tale of stone soup that has sharing and giving as the main themes. This week we are celebrating Thanksgiving by gathering around the table and sharing a big pot of Stone Soup. Thank you to all the parents that helped by providing ingredients. And a big thank you to Sarah Sanders for being our cook for today.

Apple Pumpkin Days

Room 3 ended October with Apple -Pumpkin days! Our harvest parties had yummy cooking activities and crafts. A big shout out to all the parents that helped make the parties a success.

Monday’s cooking activity was Apple Pie in
a cup. The children got to smash the graham crackers and scoop in the filling.
Monday’s art was apple printing and dot painting. It was fun stamping with apples!
Tuesday’s cooking activity was pumpkin pancakes! The children mixed the batter!
Tuesday’s craft was decorating small pumpkins with fun stickers and crowns! There were also extra pumpkins for the classmates that don’t come on Tuesdays!
There were also fun activities in the patio. Pumpkin peg hammering, pumpkin soup, and a Farmer’s Market.
And in the yard the children squeezed their own apple juice.

It was such a blast having all of our parent volunteers come in and celebrate the season with us. Thank you everyone!

Apple Pumpkin Days on the Patio

To celebrate Apple Pumpkin Days we enjoyed some festive, fall activities on the Older Pod Patio with Ms. Kristen!

Our friends in Rooms 1, 2 and 3 dissected a pumpkin at the sensory table and made Pumpkin Seed Soup with the pulp, seeds, water and cinnamon.

We used hammers and golf tees at the Pumpkin Pounding station!

We tasted red, yellow, and green apples; then we graphed our favorite!

The Farmer’s Market dramatic play was very busy. Our friends enjoyed picking apples, stocking the market, and cooking/baking with the produce.

Messy Masterpieces

Art is a wonderful way to allow preschoolers to express themselves freely. It’s a playful, enjoyable activity that brings joy and a sense of accomplishment. Art encourages problem-solving as children figure out how to make their ideas come to life which supports cognitive development. Sensory-rich activities engage a child’s senses and promote sensory development. Art allows children to explore, experiment, and have a great time while doing so.

September and Small Groups

September is almost done and we have started a few new things in our class! Small groups have begun and some of you have noticed the list that is under the lesson plan on the Parent Board! Small groups allow us to play games and strengthen our pre-academic skills at the same time!

The first thing we did in small groups was to name them; Ms. Kira’s group is the Purple Tigers, Ms. Daisy has the Red Ducks and Ms. Audra has the Pink Flamingos!

Here are a few pictures of the things we have been doing in our small groups.

With our salt trays we are practicing our prewriting skills and the shape of the month (which is a line).

With our plants we are learning about things that are living and things that are non living. We also talk about what living things need.

With our blocks we work on our fine motor skills and our shared use of space and materials.

With our story time we learn about the parts of books as well as comprehension and further develop our interest in literacy.

We have also been enjoying the patio and the yard. Here are a few pictures of some of the fun 🤩

So much of what we do involves exploring and experiencing the school; both in the classroom and in the yard. Everyday brings a new chance to experience and share and grow together!

We also had our first chapel of the school year where we heard about how God created the world and us!

Flying into a New School Year

We are flying into a new school year with some fun on The Patio with Ms. Kristen! Our airport dramatic play has been a popular area for friends in Rooms 1, 2, and 3. Our little ones have been so busy stamping passports, loading up luggage, repairing the engines, fueling up, and flying the plane! While we play, we are learning to take turns/share space and materials, acquiring new language, and building on our knowledge of the world around us. Field Trip Fun 🚌 (and a little more)

Last week we had our first official field trip to the library and we sang songs and listened to stories! The librarian even sang Bear Hunt which is a Room 3 favorite. Here are some pictures we took of the day:

We went to the library behind the park and played and ate our lunches (but mostly played).

We also had fun playing in school! Everyday is a new chance to explore and play and grow!

Water has been very popular this week. 🥵

It has been a fun summer so far and we are almost done. Thank you all for such a great time!
