HE is Risen!

Hello from Room 5!

We have been talking about the Easter story over the past few weeks and illustrating it through a story that Mrs. Joyce made and making our Resurrection Rolls.

For the Resurrection Rolls, each child had the chance to roll a marshmallow, which we used to represent Jesus’ body, in butter and a cinnamon sugar mix, representing the spices put on Jesus’ body, and rolled into a crescent roll, representing the cloth used to wrap Jesus’ body. We then put the rolls into the oven which represented the tomb. We talked about after Jesus died, they laid him in the tomb and three days later Jesus wasn’t there because He had risen at which point each child noticed that the marshmallow was gone!

Fired Up for Fun!

To capstone our exploration of community helpers, Room 1 visited Los Angeles Fire Station 82 this past week. As we drove up to the station, ALL three emergency vehicles pulled out of the garage, sirens blaring! Our little ones were captivated while our adults were a little nervous that our tour would be canceled. But OH YEAH, that was just God’s favor…AN EXCITING look at a REAL response to a call. The firefighters returned within a few short minutes, skillfully backed the engines into the garage and our tour began! They showed us their fire gear, equipment on the truck, their kitchen and their gym. They even let us hold and spray a firehose! Check it out!

Thank you to our wonderful parents and grandparents who chaperoned, drove, and made this field trip possible and so much fun! And a HUGE thank you to the amazing firefighters at Station 82!

April 2018 Preschool News and Calendar of Events

Happy spring! It seems nearly incredulous that we are already swinging into April and that the end of the year is just around the corner. The rains of late have been a nice change of pace and we have enjoyed splashing in a few puddles here and there. But as April begins, we are excited to bound into ‘spring’ themes such as gardening, flowers, insects, life cycles and more! This is always an exciting time of year as we watch new growth appear in nature, celebrate the resurrection, and enjoy the blessings God has bestowed on us.

NEWS, NOTES & MORE

Tuesday, March 27th, 7:00 pm in the Auditorium – ASSOCIATION MEETING – Did you know that ALL parents are all members of the PCS Association? As a member, it is important that you participate in our annual Association Meeting as this is an opportunity to vote on new board members, recognize staff members years of service, discuss current school issues, and more. We hope to see you there!

Easter Holiday: We are closed for Easter on Thursday, March 29 and Friday, March 30th. We are OPEN during the PCS spring break of April 2 – 6th.

SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION! There is still some availability in the summer program. Please submit your forms as soon as possible. A $50 late fee will incur on registrations submitted after April 23.

KINDER CAMP – Kinder Camp is open to all students entering TK and/or Kindergarten in the fall. Due to the nature of the program, Kinder Camp is only available in 2 4-Week sessions (not weekly). Kinder Camp is held on the PCS campus (in the TK, First Grade and Kindergarten classrooms). Should you need weekly care, your child may join us at the preschool for one last hurrah before heading off to “big” school ;-).

UPCOMING EVENTS:

PCS Gala – April 14th – We would love to see a strong attendance from preschool families at the gala. This is a fun and fabulous event where parents can socialize, get to know each other and bid on classrooms baskets (and other amazing items!) while supporting our school! Order your tickets online. Can’t attend? You can bid for items during the event using your bidpal account!

Open House – Friday, April 27, 6:30 – Minimum Day – We hope EVERYONE can attend our PCS Open House! This is the culminating school year experience where families can visit classrooms, view work and projects from this past school year, tour the art studio, visit your child’s next classroom, and even tour the PCS campus to see what fun the kids have in elementary school!

Preschool Family Picnic – Saturday, May 19 – 11:00am – 1:00pm – Join us for a morning of FUN, FOOD and FAMILIES! Children will enjoy water play, slip and slides, face painting, snow cones, bouncy houses and more! A hot dog lunch will be available for purchase. Help us estimate attendance by signing up on our “soft” RSVP form at the check-in computers. MVP HOURS AVAILABLE!

Preschool Promotion Ceremony (Rms 1 & 2) – Wednesday, May 30, 6:00 pm – Rooms 1 & 2 families – save the date, tell your families, and get your cameras ready…this event is for YOU! This your child’s culminating event of the year where students will present a selection of songs, view a special preschool-recap video, and receive a special certificate. You will NOT want to miss it!

PARENT TEACHER FELLOWSHIP (PTF):

MVP Booklets – Booklets are DUE in May! For those who have not turned in their booklet, a REVERSIBLE charge has been placed on your account. As long as your booklet is submitted by the deadline, the charge will be removed from your account.

Exploring Travel Town

Room 3 had a fantastic two days at the Travel Town Museum. The trips went smoothly and the children had a blast seeing different kinds of trains and train parts in person. Throughout the trip, the children played a game of bingo while walking around the park. There was still a lot to do by the time we left, so parents, make sure you bring your kids back! Thank you to all the parents who were able to come and we cannot wait for our next field trip.

Our Presidents

This past month, we learned about our past presidents, specifically, Washington and Lincoln, through matching games, art and building. Stove pipe hats exhibited chalk art. Photos of Lincoln’s log cabin were available at the Lincoln Log building station to inspire building creativity. Puzzles of our presidents and matching games helped our students learn a little about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

LOVE and FRIENDSHIP

During the month the of February we shared different Bible stories about how God loves everyone, “1 John 4:8” and “Genesis 37-46.” We also read books such as “Love Monster,” “Llama, Llama I Love You,” and “Valentine’s Day Is Here.” We incorporated a few Valentine’s Day projects like a gift to take home, painting hearts, and making a special bag for valentine cards.For Chinese New Year we talked about Chinese characters, made decorations, introduced Chinese music, small drums and cooked fried rice and California Rolls. We read some great books to celebrate the occasion, “Bring in the New Year,” and “Dragon Dance.”

In addition, we are enjoying our block area and dress up corner and overall, having a wonderful time in preschool!

New Year, New Adventures!

Greetings from Room5!!

We are so excited to be back in action and welcoming two amazing new teachers to our class! We are so happy to have Mrs. Joyce and Ms. Ana here to help us learn and grow!

We’ve been having so much fun enjoying our new teachers and fun activities!

For Valentine’s Day we celebrated by making some really cool art! Each child received a heart on white card stock paper, four marbles and a bin to roll the marbles in. We used purple, pink and white paint for he marble rolling and the creations they made were so unique!

And this week for Presidents’ Day, Mrs. Joyce brought two kinds of flowers to our classroom: carnations and chrysanthemums. The children used the flowers as stamps with red and blue paint! Each of the children created such different and unique paintings which are now being displayed on our bulletin board in our block area. Be sure to check it out when you swing by for drop off or pick up!

We are having so much fun growing together as a classroom and adapting well in our Room 5 environment. We love that we get to do this together. God is so good.

Collaborative Watercolor Banner

We are working on making a banner to hang in the outdoor play area and preschool lobby. It’s a wonderful piece that not only displays whimsical colors but also allows us to showcase everyone’s artwork together and demonstrate collaboration. There will be three large hanging banners and we can’t wait to display them!

All Aboard! Rm 3’s Gold Line Train Trip

Another year of trains, travel, and three-year-olds! We had a fantastic time going on this years Gold Line Trip to Union Station. The children were thrilled be out in the world and riding on a real train. Union Station was, as always, beautiful and we also enjoyed walking over to take a look at the oldest house in LA, Avila Adobe in Olvera Street. We would like to thank all the parents who made this adventure possible by driving and chaperoning us. We have been learning so much about trains and train stations so it was fantastic to see them in person.

Integrated Pest Management Plan

IPM Statement: It is the goal of Pasadena Christian Preschool to implement IPM by focusing on long-term prevention or suppression of pests through accurate pest identification, by frequent monitoring for pest presence, by applying appropriate action levels, and by making the habitat less conducive to pests using sanitation and mechanical and physical controls. Pesticides that are effective will be used in a manner that minimizes risks to people, property, and the environment, and only after the other options have been show ineffective

Our pest management objectives are to:

Focus on long-term pest prevention
Focus on natural, mechanical and/or physical controls to manage pests when possible
When pesticides are deemed necessary, we will aim to use products that minimize risks to people, property and the environment

In addition to the IPM Coordinator, following are other individuals who are involved in purchasing, making IPM decision, applying pesticides and complying with the Healthy Schools Act:

Pest Management Contracting

Pest management services are contracted to a licensed pest control business.

Pest Identification, Monitoring, and Inspection

Pest identification is done by the following groups/individuals:

Contracted pest control business (Ecola)
PCS Environmental Services team

Monitoring and inspecting for pests and conditions that lead to pest problems are done regularly by:

Ecola, the contracted pest control business, conducts inspections and treatment on the FOURTH SATURDAY of each month
PCS Environmental Services staff, weekly walk-through and as needed
PCS Preschool employees, daily visual inspections

Pests and Non-Chemical Management Practices

We will use the following non-chemical management practices prior to using pesticides should the following pests be found at the center:

Ants: sanitation, eliminating food sources, sealing cracks, installing barriers, bait traps
Bees: regular inspection, physical removal of nests
Termites: eliminate food sources, replace infested structures, install bariers
Spiders: seal cracks, physical removal, natural deterrents (painting dark areas white)
Rodents: sanitation, eliminating food sources, sealing cracks, installing barriers, physical removal, traps

When the above-mentioned practices are ineffective, the school will use our contracted pest control company to use pesticides as necessary.

Chemical Management Practices

If non-chemical methods are ineffective, our school will consider pesticides only after careful monitoring indicates that they are needed according to pre-established action levels and will use pesticides that pose the least possible hazard and are effective in a manner that minimizes risks to people, property and the environment.

This child care centers uses Ecola, a contracted pest control business to apply pesticides on our behalf on the FOURTH SATURDAY of each month to treat for ants and other insects as they have proven difficult to manage without the use of chemical assistance. Pesticide data sheets can be viewed in the front office.

Pesticide Application Schedule

2018 Pesticide Application Schedule (conducted by Ecola) is the 4th Saturday of each month. This posting serves as the required advanced notice for pesticide application at our school.

January 27, February 24, March 24, April 28, May 26, June 23, July 28, August 25, September 22, October 27, November 24, December 22.

Training

The preschool staff at Pasadena Christian Preschool have all received the following training prior to pesticide (including germicides such as Clorox, bleach, etc.) use:
